I noticed that at least one of the outboards I've driven still has the propeller moving slowly when you are in neutral. I had someone laugh at me today telling me that props don't move when you are in neutral.

Is this an inboard vs outboard issue? Is it weird for them to move?

my guess would be that the water moving past the prop is making it spin, the motor is not spinning it in neutral

sorta same thing as running a car in neutral with wheels off the ground, wheels will turn a little bit.

^ yep...the prop will turn a bit, its like being in neutral, not park :)

So if the prop was to touch your leg or something, it would stop dead no problem and you'd be fine, correct?

Is it still spinning at idle? whats the RPM's?

RPM's would not matter...from the sound of it, its like putting the clutch in on a std car. you can at 10,000RPM but if the clutch is in you won't be moving.

I personally would test that theory, but yah, if its not in gear the prop would stop if your leg touched it. If you are loading or unloading people out the back it always best to turn the motor off.

It will still spin, but im pretty sure that its just the water flowing through it. Everyone ive talked to tho said if the boats in neutral you have nothing to worry about, if your leg were to hit the prop it would just stop.

Speaking from experience... Turn it off when in doubt, even when they are spinning really slow they hurt like a biotch when you bump your leg into them. Jet Drive FTW
