So i'm looking at a new Dell laptop right now cause they have these back to school deals going on. I already have one but this new one has an option of and LCD screen. My current laptop isn't LCD so i'm not sure if they are any good or any reliable?

I can choose from either:

15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA Display with TrueLife â„¢
or
15.4 inch Wide Screen WXGA LCD Display

Which one would be better?

Oh and one more question haha, my laptop right now is a pentium IIII 2.0GHz and the new one is a pentium duo core but its 1.5GHz. I assume just because mine has a minutely quicker processor speed, the duo core will still blow mine away?

TrueLife is their glossy or brighter screen (usually better quality). The Duo will run circles around the IV. Is your laptop pre-1991 that it doesn't have a LCD display?

doesn't the "w" just signify wide-screen display as opposed to a 4:3?

yeah thats what i don't understand. they are both wide screen. Maybe its their marketing trick to get you to buy the shittier "lcd" display.

Both can be found in a 15.4" diagonal screen, with WXGA obviously being the higher option.

so you're saying i should go with the WXGA?

the truelife/truebright etc type of screen i think has a crisper image. but can be a real drag if you have any glare. you can never fail with the standard lcd. the truelife screen is made of glass. these are a lot more fragile than the standard lcd. so your call, go to futureshop and you can see the difference.

I have the non-glossy screen in an 17", have no issues with it at all with glare. I am too looking to get the new Dell 13" XPS laptop once it goes on sale...hopefully soon! Not too sure how I will like the glossy screen, but I guess I don't have a choice when it comes to the 13" screens. I will let you know when every I do get one.

Right now I have a 17" Inspiron 1000.

better screens also tend to eat battery faster, so if your not going to be plugged in all the time, it may be something to think about...
