Nice to see some dropped vettes with nice rims, love the black with the blac/red rims. Seems like Calgary vette owners all put cheesy wheels on their stock height vettes and call it a day.

If I was to pick the rims for this car, I would have picked the five spokes. But looking at this picture, I find this style better... maybe because there's already a lot of 5 spoke rims on vettes out there.... the offset and size look a bit off but I like the setup....

Pop-ups really do suck. They have horrible areo when up and tend to shake when you hit bumps. Not only that, they always fail.

The way GM does their pop-ups, they sense for a current spike when the light gets all the way open/closed and that is how they deactivate the motor. unfortunately, over a short period of time, the large torque spikes the little nylon gears see everytime the lights turn on and off, strips them. The result is an awesome grinding sound for ten seconds everytime you use them. It is great when your car is making these horrible sounds that everyone in the parking lot can hear...

I just picked up a Silver z06. Been daily driving it for the last 2 months. For the price I don't think there is a better combination of a car being wicked fast, and still driveable. And I'm getting like 33mpg highway.

It has exhaust, intake and short shifter, definately going to get some 19's and lower it, then decide if I want to go all motor, TT, or S/C. They all have their upside, haha. Either way looking for around 550whp

Great looking pics. C5Z's are one of the best all-around cars you can get a hold of right now under 30k performance wise; and they can still get 30mpg cruising on the highway -- better than some econo-boxes, which is amazing.

My next car will be a C6 Z06... it's sad to continually have to re-explain to people like you that hear Jeremy Clarkson say one of his favorite phrase and instantly assume it's meaningful and then re-spout the same BS to another 100 people.

There isn't anything "pre-historic" about the suspension in newer corvettes, regardless of the fact that some use a transverse leaf-spring design.

To drive this point home;... here's a video clip of a stock C6 Z06 absolutely raping and PILLAGING a stock F430 on a race track:

Vince, when Top Gear test drove the base C6 they talked about the leaf springs and how it was very dated technology...how the interior was "cheap" among other downfalls...But, it was Hamster...not Clarkson...

But when Clarkson drove the Z06 model, and the ZR1 his views were different...Except for when he made fun of the rear bumper material and fit haha...

The Jeremy Clarkson reference is from the numerous times he has refered to the corvette as still riding on "leaf springs"... thus starting the trend and the reason the guy I was replying to would say the same thing.

After he raved about the car on the track, he goes on to say that it's terrible on the road, doesn't work at all, blah blah... which is of course utter BS.

Watched all 13 seasons... and wasted countless hours on corvetteforums so if anything I'm over-researched :D

F1 tires are a bit loud, of course, the car is a bit loud in general -- coincidentally light and fast :p I hear that Nitto Invo's or PS2's are a bit of an improvement, and it would seem that a set of them would resolve all of Clarkson's gripes.

Arif, We are talking about the Z06 not a base C6. Which makes the base C6 comment irrelevant.

Either way, you cant deny the fact that the interior IS cheap and is dated looking.

Sure you can switch the tires out for something else, but that would be considered "modding" which is beyond what they are comparing.

Dont get me wrong i absolutely love the car, even with its low price it still rapes ferraris and Lambos.

Well, all Z06's use the "leaf springs" whereas you can get the "F55 magnetic suspension" option on regular C6's and it's standard on the ZR1.

But yeah, I agree about the interiors. Good thing I could drop 15-20k on a Caravaggio interior like this:

http://www.andrewkicksass.com/z1.jpg

http://www.andrewkicksass.com/z2.jpg

http://www.andrewkicksass.com/z3.jpg

http://www.andrewkicksass.com/z4.png

And end up with a generally faster, more reliable, better on gas, AND has a nicer interior than a Ferrari for less than half than I would have spent on the F-car. Granted, I'd still love to have one, but that is pretty compelling I think :bigpimp:

And just to get the thread back on track, here's quite possibly the ultimate C5Z :D :

I know this, you know this...a few in the thread know this...

But I was just trying to clear up where the quote about the leaf springs came from....

Team_Mclaren
10-09-2009, 04:18 PM
^ fair enough. Is it dated tech? Probably. But does it work on the car? absolutely. I have no problem with them putting leaf springs in the rear, cuz they sure as hell knows more about suspension engineering than we do.

I agree that people who has never driven one usually jumps on the "hate on old tech" bandwagon. but you certainly cant deny that fact that its fucking fast and goes around corners well. That's pretty much all it matters.

BTW: IIRC the C5R is spotting front and rear coilovers instead of Leaf springs in the rear... so is it better? the racing team definitely thinks so.
