Hey guys I'm having this dilemma whether if I should buy a RSX from the states and import it here.

I found a sweet 2004 Type S RSX with only 30k miles on it and Ive been emailing the owner about it. I managed to get him to go down to 16k.

The link to the car is:

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=217275382

lemme know what u guys think? Is the value reasonable? 'preciate it guys!

Keep in mind no warranty transferability for honda/acura.

if you're gonna get an rsx, make it a type-s or don't get one at all...:D

Yeah, gotta keep in mind that the US got the silver wheels on the type-s instead of the graphite ones in Canada.
I'm not sure you would save alot of money on that one after it was all said and done.
The mileage is slightly low, but who knows.
I would check clubrsx to see if this guy is on there also.
The car is alot of fun, it's just not for everybody.
Definately get a type-s, worth the price of admision for sure.
Good luck.

By contacting Honda Canada, depending on the model/age, warranty car still be honoured.

wow these are great responses! so should I go for it then? Is the price reasonable compared to the ones up here? If I were to get the same car of equivalent quality & mileage how much would I be looking at to spend?

I guess I'll have to make some phone calls to ensure that they still honour the warranty if I do import it up here.

#1. Honda warranty does not transfer from US to Canada. It's stated specifically on their websites.

#2. You're not going to save any money. By the time you pay duty and GST, shipping, or gas/flight, you're better off buying a local private car. Realistically, you need to buy cars in the $40,000 range or higher to really take advantage of the US rates.

Sorry- he mentioned he was bringing up one from the US and that is what I was talking about. I know the Canadian cars can transfer warranty....my bad...:nut:

Pretty much true- rule of thumb is to add between 25-30% on the sale price of the car to get it to your door, all taxes, shipping, fees, etc. included.

Buying my G, I ended up paying just under $33k for it to my door where I should have paid about $36 for it locally- basically I saved 10%.

So yeah, the differential is more substantial for higher end cars.

Personally I would prob pick one up here to avoid the hassles for the exact same price, and to have a warranty. here's the way I went about cost

16000USD
x1.09 (exchange)
=17440 CAD
x1.121 (duty 6.1% and GST 6%)
=19550
+200 (riv fee)
=19750
+ 1000? (give or take a bit for OOP + whats needed to pass)
=20750
+1000 (min for flight, hotel, gas, meals. 2000+ for a broker)
=21750.

for 21750 I would look for a Canadian RSX. Given that the condition of this car is prob nicer than is Canadian counterpart like my m3 was, the hassle of having no canadian warranty on honda, plus the fact that if you ever try and sell, people lowball the shit outta you since they believe you basically got it for free from the states, is not worth the hassle.

get a rsx! (type s though, dont make the same mistake I did :( ) and.. yah i think you should look for a canadian rsx itll be easier.. and more accurate on the price unlike all that import stuff.

I dont know, I found it to be a pretty bland and unexciting car when we had one. After 2 years we couldn't wait to get rid of it.

RSX :thumbsdow imo.

"THIS IS A TYPE-S!! Beautiful car! $16,999 OBO. Fully loaded: 6-speed manual, leather, alloy wheels, Bose sound system, in-dash 6 CD player, moonroof/sunroof, power everything. 1 year + on the warratny! All maintenance done at the dealer, premium gas only, gargaged for life, non-smoker. Only 30K miles. The interior is flawless, never been in an accident. BRAND NEW TIRES. 5 speed= base
6 speed= type s (which what this guy is selling)
base don t have a bose sound system

they don t have gunmetal rims for this year of rsx in the states.

I phoned silverhill and talked to the incredibly friendly service department- top notch  I was told not a chance for any US cars. They did not mention anything about an exception either. But that makes me wonder because when I transfered my Infiniti warranty, they said we have to check first and then when everyhting came back fine, warranty was good to transfer.

I wonder if you could get it done on a case by case basis.

I'm searching for a type S thats bone stock with the exception of few engine mods such as cold air intake to strut bars... nothing too extravagant.

Thank you everybody for your helpful suggestions. I will continue to look around Canada for one and hopefully I can find one with low mileage.

I forgot to mention that by the end of this month I will be going to school in the states (Washington DC) I was wondering if theres any way I could keep the car American then I just could bring it up here during the summer when I'm home from school? Could I register it under my friend's name or something like that? I know its a stupid question.

The only exception is if you can prove that you had perm residency in the states, it was registered there, and and you imported it here. If you sell the car here, warranty's gone.

This allows ppl that legitimately relocate to Canada to have warranty. Even then, Honda recommends selling the car and buying another one in Canada to prevent any hassles.
