Hey guys i have just got a new hard drive for my computer. The problem was that my old hard drive burnt or some shit like that. Well i got a 120 gig from future shop and when i instaled it i put on windows 98 in for now. Well when i try to start it, it reboots when it is about to show me my icons. When i start it in safe mode it works perfect.

Some of my friends told me that maybe it could be that ram saying there is not to much. When it is used in SafeMode it use's less color and all other less stuff. When starting windows normally they said it takes up more power and color and stuff. I was wondering if that is true or not. If not does anyone know why this is happening or How i could fix it?
My Computer has 128 PC 133 Ram.

Well, I highly doubt that RAM is your problem.
Keep in mind, that in Safe Mode, ram would display the same error properties that would exist in Normal mode.

Now Safe Mode runs a minimal amount of drivers. I am gonna suggest that you make sure you have the right video card driver. It sounds to me like the computer is fine booting in Safe because it has a standard VGA adapter loaded, but when it loads your video card in normal mode and applies full color and resolution it causes and error and re-boots.
Find out what card you have and DL some new drivers for it off the manufacturers website. Ones that are designed for Windows 98.
Sounds like a vid card issue to me.

try your computer manufacturer's website..there was this one website called www.drivers.com but last time i checked it wasn't there no more?

try the manufacturer's website first... if that doesn't work, try www.driverguide.com
the username/password is: drivers/all

it doesn't sound like a video card issue . it's an ide controller issue and/or pci/isa bus .. consult your mother board manufacturer's website and download the appropiate drivers for your motherboard.

ie get the following:

- agp driver
- pci/isa bus driver and/or ide driver
- video (if onboard)
- sound (if onboard)

the problem isn't with your ram or your new hard drive . the problem is windows 98 doesn't contain the updated drivers required for your hardware .

Also to narrow down your required driver search . do the following:
- boot into safe mode
- right click on "My Computer"
- Select "Properties"
- Select "System"

look through the list of "hardware" and make note of any with an exclamation mark or question mark icon . Also look in the "uknown devices" list and make note of what is in there .

Those will be the devices/drivers giving you this problem .

Or you could simply install a newer version of 2000, XP or ME . they will most likely contain the drivers you need

What kind of system do you have?
What processor, etc.
If I were you, I'd just make sure I meet the requirements and then install Win 2000 or XP.

If you're looking for a place in the NE, I really don't know anywhere, 'cept the usual electronics places like Future Shop, Staples, etc. No idea what the prices are either.
