Puts the smile back on my face:D :D ...I feel like HD DVD is the underdog against the the Evil Empire that is Sony...

Blu-Ray is currently killing HD-DVD. Friend said blu-ray discs are selling 3x more than HD-DVD.

http://www.eproductwars.com/dvd/

Blu-Ray is killing cuz the content is better, thanks to Sony having a LOT of top movies coming out of their studios the last 2 years. Not sure if this signing will save them, it's the first time that gaps gotten this huge, might be hard to recover. Lots of PS3 sales too cuz it's a good BD player, I believe PS3 outsold 360 for the first time last month.

I'll probably end up with a blu-ray player pretty soon... Kill Bill Pt1 and Pt2 will be released as Blu-Ray exclusive (Miramax), while Kill Bill the Whole Bloody Affair (2 movies recut as 1 single) will be HD-DVD exclusive (Weinstein has rights to this one).

Annoying huh? lol

I will never go twith HD DVD becaue its not true HD. I spent all that money on a 1080P LCD tv for a reason. And to those that say there isnt a difference there totally is. BLU RAY hands down.

WTF are you talking about??? Both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD (for dual releases) uses the EXACT same VC1 files. Bit for bit if you can extract them. How is that not true HD? lol

I mean as HD DVD can only show a resolution of 1080i as Blu ray goes to 1080P.

Maby its a player issue but i was understanding that HD goes 1080i and Bluray goes 1080p so i would obvioulsy buy the one that supports the full resolution of my TV.

We might just have to suck it up and plan on buying TWO players for our home theatre system. What's another ~ $500 (or whatever)?

Will that really matter since there seems to be a lot of people here that continue to buy two gaming consoles? (eg. own both Xbox AND PS2, or Xbox 360 AND PS3).

It matters because it's annoying having to pick up a disc, determins which player it goes in, flip to that mode, and watch lol. Plus it eats up another HDMI input!

And ya, both blu-ray and HD-DVD does 1080p. Honestly, the difference isn't even noticable (1080i vs 1080p), both are full 1920x1080 resolution, and since the 1080p content is at 24fps, both can output that perfectly fine. 1080i is 60fps, which is equivilent to 1080p @ 30fps. Both requires pulldown to get the smooth non jerky video.

That's the Sony cool-aid talking. If you got a good TV/Player, 1080i/p doesn't matter.

if xbox 360 had hd dvd built in it would already be over, very smart move on sonys part by putting out a blue ray/game system to boost there dvd sales

360 adoption rate would be low due to parts shortage. Than games would won't be coming because not enough $$ for developer to make on the platform.

In other news:

Michael Bay threatens no Transformer 2 from him if Transformer isn't released on BR.

I dont think its that big of a deal. If you can afford a decent hdtv and pay for a hd cable box and hd cable, buying a Blu-Ray/HD-DVD dual player shouldnt be that much of a hit to you.

I'm pretty sure they are around a grand, with Toshiba already having one, and Samsung, LG and NEC not far behind with releasing their own versions.

wow nice response from Michael Bay.

dont really care who wins, but the sooner a format wins, the sooner more ppl will move to HD including myself.

Can you imagine the impact that Harry Potter would have on this if it were to be released on HD DVD exclusive!?

I heard where Paramount is coming from and the future of HD and players that will be close to the $200 mark which is the magic number. I like what I heard.

As a director, I'm all about people seeing films in the best quality possible, and I saw and heard firsthand people upset about a corporate decision.

So today I saw 300 on HD, it rocks!
So I think I might be back on to do Transformers 2!

Wuss!

I have both; now when i go to a store and pick up a movie, i take both HD-DVD and blueray to the counter, whichever one scans in for less money is the one i buy!

so far after owning 9 movies, 8 times its been 5$ difference and one time 10$, so im upto 50$ towards either my ps3 or hd-dvd player on my xbox.

WIN-WIN situation!

Honestly though, they do the exact same thing.. same menu's, same options, sony does have more "behind the scenes" type shit though.

I have both. BlueRay seems to be cheaper for the most part because they don't include the DVD version on the other side.

I bought 300 on BD a few weeks ago. It was almost as good as the theater.

^^^^not many discs actually have the combo units built in and in the future there will be even less...these are generally the only HD DVD's that will be more expensive than the blu ray counterpart!
