Anyone else unable to connect to google and gmail tonight? Any other site works for me but these two are causing issues along with signing into msn using my gmail account.

here is another trace.

Best guess this is a server that is crashing or is constantly crashing. I did the second trace a few times and this is the first one that failed at that point.

Internet's been flaky for me all evening too. I just assumed it was related to DNS. I'm also on Telus.

I live and die by trace route. I build/fix/troubleshoot computers as a side job. you would not belive how many problems i can solve with that one command.

it is related to DNS, specifically looking up domain IP addresses as the servers are slow on that.

then, to top it off, looks like the TELUS substation server went buggy and they had to reboot it, and seems to be stable again, but the DNS servers are still VERY slow.

mine is back up but it's slow. Stupid telus!

in all fairness, telus seems to be only a small portion of the problems in this case. DNS servers for most websites are hosted on some pretty big servers that compile all web site IP addresses and effectively tell telus which way to route the packets to get to your desired web site.

I could be wrong, but i don't have another ISP account to test my theory right now.

however, having said that, no one has come on stating they have the same problem with SHAW, so it could be a problem with the smaller TELUS DNS servers.

please ammend my past responce, seems like it is telus. in this trace once I hit hop #8 all addresses and IPs went quick, so the problem is telus DNS servers.
