Well I’ve owned my share of cars in the past couple of years but I’ve never had a car that I had to pretty much build from ground up/swap engines, interiors etc.

on my vacation to Kelowna this year I stumbled across a black EG civic coupe with a intercooler up front, 17' wheels and a for sale sign on the windshield. The car was parked on the side of the highway. We decided to turn around and check the car out...it was ugly and modded with poor taste. I mean dual ractive exhaust, eBay headlights, fog lights, eBay tail lights, the whole interior trimmings were painted white, knock-off vtec stickers...and so on. The car was a perfect candidate for a project car, ho sight of rust what-so-ever! The clutch is on its way out and the turbo kit is from eBay and it was not tuned but I did make it to Calgary.

As soon as we got home pretty much everything looks wise got put back to stock and my old 15" wheels got put on to top off the clean look ( i never liked big wheels on a civic) as well as a JDM sir cluster and some amber corners...the white painted pannels got ripped out the second i got home and after a few visits to the junkyard 90% of the interior is clean again!

Enough of typing, here are some pics...

i will update this thread as i go. feel free to comment or ask questions trough here if you want to. Also if you have some parts i could use, anything for a RG civic, then give me a shout.

im putting my other car on hold for now and it might go for sale soon depending of how the money situation goes after this car. if interested, give me a pm

just for curiousity how does the SOHC pull with the Egay kit?

euro_racer

it is not even THAT bad...suprisingly at only 4psi and a slipping clutch, un-tuned it was able to pull on my lightly modded gti 1.8t

first part of the project was to find a b-series engine and luckly i was able to find a "non repairable" 01 acura integra ls with only 69km on it to use for its engine, seats and rear brakes

in the process of stripping the integra, i did some reading and comparing and the interior is pretty much the same as on the civic...the integra seats did not look that great with the gray carpet and dash and it would be nice to keep track of the real km of the engine so i thaught, time to get rid of the old ugly gray carpet and swap in the black integra interior:

much better....

keep posted i will document all the interesting things i found out during this project on here...integra dash swap, rear brake swap/suspension, engine swap, and new turbo kit content is on the way troughout this whole thread :)

edit: sorry about the caps.

i payed $4000 for it in BC...i know its not the best deal but as soon as i saw that there was no rust, i was sold.
also the integra cost me $2500 and i figure a swap alone is worth about $1200 w/more km's so if i can sell off all the extra parts and the wheels and ebay turbo that came with the car, then it will all be a bit cheeper

so youve got 6500 into, and youre not keeping the turbo? is the turbo kit shitty for some reason?

well its not shitty or anything like most people say, its decent, the manifold has also been re-welded for extra strength by the shop that installed it in the first place but it will not fit the new engine and i want to go bigger

Any pictures of when you first picked it up?

euro_racer

funny thing is we passed it o the way into town and noticed it. came back an hour later and checked it out up close, price was $5000, had a couple laughs, went back to the hotel. thaught about the possibilities back at the hotel, went back to check it out some more, did a few calculations, called the owner, threw an offer at him of 3800 and it took him a day to think about it and he decided that he will not sell less than 4000. we test drove the car and it was horrible, lots of problems but after a bit more of thinking, me and my brother decided to just go ahead with it "just for the fuck f it" with the thaught of a b-series turbo swap in mind and the rest is history :)

what a coincidence ahha

edit: no pictures of when i first got it. most of the things including the stickers, headlights, fog lights, hood bra and tail lights i took off right as soon as i came to the hotel :nut:

also, before you do the brake swap...

get some GOOD brake line wrenches and a good torch, the last thing you want is a siezed brake line, SUCH a pain in the ass.

http://www.mytoolstore.com/sk/381.jpg

and go to partsource, ask for some "release all" penetrating fluid. with that stuff and a tourch, you might have a chance with the brake lines and lower control arm bolts. also look into stainless braided brake lines while you have them off

thanks for the tip!, taking the brake assembly off the integra was an easy task...i have yet to see how the civic will be but knowing that might help

TOM, just the man i wanted to see...this car has some dents on the side of it that i would like you to take a look at later on when its all done...so maybe after the winter...?

anyways, the new house rules! the garage has more than enaugh room for 2 cars and 3 tool boxes and them some lol...24x24ft rules, and it helps being one of the first houses developed on the block so that there is no neighbours looking at you weird :poosie:

yea, it'll be a couple of months. oh man, there's like a whole mob of angry dented car owners waiting for me, I'm kinda scare to come home actually.

Didn't know there would be such a positive response once people realize there are differences between "dent shops" ya know :poosie:

And don't worry everyone, NORMAL years, there're more "dent guys" than there are door dents. Just that this year had too much hail storms (which is bad for our industry, cuz the dent guys that can't really fix hail, are kinda forced to)... normally there would only be a few hail storms and hail towns which only moviates a small group of capable PDR guys to pounce on it; like a basement Star Trek sasuage fest all over someone's little sister coming downstairs. It's expensive being on the road if you can't do the work in time, quality, etc...

Thanks for bareing with my services this year, and if you had to get your dents fixed else where, I'll understand

thanks for the kind words and encouragment fellas!
i just picked up some goodies at the speed tech sale this weekend and im pretty happy with the purchases ;)

HOWEVER, being te kind of the person i am with the desiese i suffer from (the kind that makes you switch cars alot for no reason)..ive come across another car that i would like to make into a project instead of the civic. so right now, the 2nd or 3rd week (lots of hours and money) into the build, im on the fence about selling the civic and going on with the mystery car (its still a boosted honda, and its newer ;) )

lets see how this will go trough, a FS thread might appear for this car within the week so if anyone is interested throw me some offers :banghead:

ahah whats wrong with a B18 turbo? i mean i know its been done before but cheap power = :bigpimp:
funny thing is i almost did buy a k20 for cheap for this car but its just soo much easier to boost and swap the b18

Nice project so far Euro, what are your goals (if you keep it) by the end ? What general look / configuration are you going for ?

i will most likely end up going with the euro look like i have going on with the gti since it is not too popular here yet on civicd :D...wide wheels, streched rubber, slammed, some c/f...etc, just simple stuff

Nope, not it haha. i would like to keep the black gti,it has pretty much everything ive always wanted on a car since forever, but im just running short of money right now and with winter around the corner it is just not worth it, i dont rant to drive it in winter and the civic will take up most of the garage...besides, the gti cant even make it up the driveway anyway :D

anyways, im working on it right now and ive encountered an problem

since the new engine is OBD2 and the stock intake manifold has a EVAP purge control solenoid valve my qiestion is this....do i need that? im changing the manifold into skunk2 and i will be running OBD1, so how would one go about removing the EVAP valve?? it seems to be connected to the whole wiring harnes :banghead:

Hey Euro.

I'm quite interested in this project, just makin sure that the project is still bootin around in the positives!

Hows everythin goin in the garage?

euro_racer
10-10-2007, 03:57 PM
i have actually began to do some work lately!

-i got the turbo kit in, sitting in the garage
-the whole interior swap is done (minus the door pannels), lights work and so do all the controls
-i pulled the old ebay turbo kit off and we are throwing that onto a friend's ek civic just for fun ahha
-started taking the b18 apart to change the heasgasket, studs, and timing belt
-started transfering parts onto the new intake mani and TB

all that i need right now is to find a stage 2 clutch somewhere and i can begin the swap pretty soon

i will try and get pictures of the updates soon

oh and my question about the EVAP valve is solved too....since i will be using obd1 and the old civic harness, the evap valve will be deleted :D

euro_racer
10-10-2007, 03:59 PM
also a small update: looks like i will not be going with the OG wheels after all but instead i will just put up with the current ones untill something comes around

maybe i should put some integra or acura badges on?? haha i kid i kid

Haha... Be interested in helping me do a teg dash swap?

I've been contemplating it for about a year now, I just don't want to get myself into a project I can't handle (fabbing/modding) most of my experience is bolting stuff on.

It's looking amazing so far... I should talk to you when I see you at school... I walk by you all the time, but I doubt you recognize me. haha.

euro_racer
10-10-2007, 07:26 PM
the swap can be done in 2 days with you taking your time, doing the swap itself was not that hard...it is the wiring that was a real bitch to do and getting everything to work. my hazard lights still dont work so im thinking of making a seperate switch for it and hide it in the glovebox we will see

i can give you a few tips and pointers if you want but to do this swap again with my schedule right now is pretty much not possible

here is what i used as a guideline:
http://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1053318
http://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1211255

im still trying to figure out how to finish off the swap by making the door pannels work

LilDrunkenSmurf
10-12-2007, 11:17 AM
Sounds pretty brutal. That's always been my major concern was the door panels... I'm pretty sure I could handle the wiring after doing some research myself a few months ago (and thanks to the advice of CivicDXR) The only other issue I could see is the switches I need (sunroof, mirrors, fog, rear defrost). The only other problem I heard is that you need to cut/drill some holes yourself... And that you have to swap the heater core from the teg?

How are you having problems with the hazard switch? can you not get the wiring right? Or...?

As for the door panels, when I was looking on H-T... (I didn't really completely read those threads you posted because I'm sure I read them before)

One guy slit the vinyl on the civic doors, cut out the foam, and carefully reapplied the vinyl. I've also heard that you can modify the integra door panels to fit. It looks better, but apparently is more difficult to do (understandably so).

euro_racer
10-12-2007, 01:56 PM
noone really got the wiring right for the hazard switch the best thing to do is jut use your stock switch extend the wires into the glove box or under your dash just so you can reach it if you ever need it, no biggie really, another problem is the rear defrog switch where you actually have to build your own little timer/switch described in this thread:

http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1470292

you dont have to use that method but if you dont your defrogger will be on non stop (if you wire the integra switch)

thanks man, there is nothing to see right now other than a messy garage with all kinds of parts and tools laying around...since we are pretty much neighbours you are welcome to drop by any time but the ideal time to come see the car would most likely be after the engine swap since that is when all the real "work" starts ahha

Not true. It depends if you want the harness plug and play. All it takes is re-tracing the wires.

My Co-driver spent a good portion of a week getting personal with an ohm multi tester.

The end result - plug and play harness with all the bells - Signal, Hazard, Defrost, A/C (forgott o turn the A/C light on) :)

re installed the head with proper torque specs and installed the new timing belt:

once all the engine work has been completed, i installed the hondata intake spacer along with the intake manifold and tb and then put on the turbo manifold along with valve cover, turbo and wastegate just to get an aproximate idea of how it will end up looking :bigpimp:

i got myself some of those OG wheels in silver with black but im debating if i want to go with the axis OG's or not after all....what do you guys think?

i put them on the car to see how it looks but since the car is not low enaugh (still on cheap lowering springs, didnt get a chance to do the suspension yet), it looks a bit off, maybe it needs to be slammed?...it would be different for sure but im not sure if i want to be different or simple like many other honda's with rota wheels

opinions?

Not short from creating your own skin :( The other methods that ppl have done are ugly.

We initially thought about it but decided it wasn't an issue once the cage was put in. The more crushable room you have the better it is for the driver :D
