Just received this in my email:

Microsoft launched an promotion for students, enabling them to purchase Office Ultimate 2007 for $64. The deal will run through April 2008.

Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 includes: Word 2007, Excel 2007, PowerPoint 2007, Outlook 2007 with Business Contact Manager, Access 2007, Publisher 2007, OneNote 2007, Groove 2007 and InfoPath 2007.

Through the Ultimate Steal promotion, students download the trial version through the URL below, which verifies their student status. Once verified, students download the Office 2007 trial and purchase the student license electronically.

Canadian site: http://www.theultimatesteal.ca/

I'm pretty sure that any university alumni email will work. As far as "being actively enrolled with at least 0.5 course load", I doubt they will ever call you and check.

I just used my UofA alumni email. I think they may be putting that clause in there to scare people who don't know any better.

For $64, it's hardly a steal. A real steal would be free. At that price point, they are still making shit loads of money, and monopolizing the office software industry with every person that buys a license.

Taken from the website and I wouldnt put it past Bill Gates... just be careful.

"Microsoft or an appointed vendor may contact you to verify that you are a current student. If documentation is not provided indicating that you are a current student, you will be liable to reimburse Microsoft for the full retail cost of the software (CA $899)."

Personally I would rather spend $150ish on 2007 Home and Student

How is $900 software for $64 not a steal?

Or just buy it at Best Buy and pay $100 for it. If you use the coupon you get it for $49 with purchase of a laptop.

You can buy Office 2007 at bestbuy for $100? I just looked and I'm not seeing that... and as for the torrents and pirating it.. well. I think the point of this thread is that you can get a legitimate copy for a fair price.

Given a choice, I will ALWAYS be willing to pay a fair price for decent software. Unfortunately, I don't see office 2007 as being a fair price. Hence, I wont' use it.

:thumbsdow to Ry_an_6 advocating software piracy

Sorry. I didn't see it was office ultimate - thought it was office student.
