I'm thinking of getting some spacers for my car. Does anybody know if they're safe? I'm thinking 1" spacers and what brand is good to buy and what brand to stay away from.

Wheel spacers are perfectly safe...its using washers to space your wheels out thats bad :D

Any spacers that are hubcentric will be fine. I have some for sale.....what kind of car is it? bolt pattern?

Too big of spacers will kill your bearings. Good brands: H & R. for a bit less Project KICS

spacers are good. most guys on zilvia run spacers to get better stances on there wheels. if you plan on spacing out 17x7's look into new wheels unless they have insane low offsets.

what car is this for anyways?

It's for my camaro. After putting 19" on the rear, I have alot of fender gap and i really hate it.

I personally would never run spacers. Make sure that you get extended wheel studs if you run significant spacers.

You need to lower. You probably also got the wrong offset for the wheels.

Wheels for Domestic cars usually have super low offsets.

It would be safer to sell your wheels and buy a set with a more appropriate offset.

Agreed,

You would have to run pretty big spacers to make your wheels flush. I would highly recommend lowering your car, and buying wheels that are an appropriate offset. Your Camaro will look super mean!!!

If you are running 1" spacers you WILL need longer will studs. Lug nuts are suppose to engage a full 5 1/2 threads on the stud. ANY less then that and it is super dangerous.

AVOID non-hub centric spacers. They are shit and will most likely cause vibration.

There are good and bad ways to use spacers...

When you start getting above 15mm of spacer thickness, the best way to go is to run a spacer of the hub centric, bolt on variety. These are built out of billet aluminum and actually bolt to the vehicle using the cars existing studs, and then the spacer itself has studd pressed though to bolt the wheel onto.

Here is an example...
http://www.adaptitusa.com/index.asp

If you are running narrower than a 15mm spacer then you want to make sure you have enough stud length to get at the very least 5 full turns of the lugnut before contact, but more is definitely better... If you can't you will need to get longer studs for sure...

I have been running H&R 25mm adapters (they are exactly like what is shown on the link bob gave) for 15000km with no issues at all.

I ran 25mm spacers on the front of my old 7 series before without any issues.

Read Bob's post for exactly what I was told when I needed to get spacers, hubcentric H&R Trak spacers are the way to go.

Should i lower it first and then put spacers? Or should i put the spacers first and then lower it? Oh yeah... Can i damage racing with them at the track?

just make sure you get spaces that have there own bolts. do not get the spaces where you need longer lug bolts

and make sure they are tight to spec check them more regularly i recommend you check them freequently

once a month
