I'm not new to Calgary by any means been here 3 years but a vet is not something I've had to bring my cat too out here yet. I live in lake chaparall and would like to know if there is a decent vet in the area that will be more geared towards actually helping make my cat better versus making a profit. i realise they are all in for profit but some vets still think about the animal and will try to save ya money if they can.

now here's the issue my cat is limping so i think he may have hurt himself being crazy and jumping on top of the cupboards and down again. So I just need to find a vet that won't reem me into a 1200$ bill as i am a student and on limited funds.

any help would be greatly apreciated by me and nizmo.

Dr Torrence - he's amazing with animals and truely cares more about them then the money. The ONLY vet I will take my guys to.

Seeings how you are on limited funds...he does his best to make it easier on you as far as money and will do payment plans aswell.

Very best vet i have ever come across is the one in edgemont. He is such a nice guy and will explain everything he is doing and looking for when giving your dog a check up. He is also the cheapest by far. We got out dog, spad, tatooed and teeth cleaned for like 300 bucks.
He is also really caring for the dogs so you know there is good hands. He wrote us a fully page card on how sorry he was when our dog had to be put down. Try him out!

well i have a cat so i need a vet that is good with cats. nizmo ain't himself while limping, he's been hissing at me and at the same time been way more cuddly when usually he's too independant to sleep on my bed he's been sleeping by my head for 2 weeks, all he's been doing is sleeping. and as soon as i touch his leg right where it bends he'll lick my hand as a warning that he's about to bite me and does bite if i keep feeling around that area so i know it's his leg. i just don't want a vet to be like oh that'll be 1200$ because then i don't know what i'll do cuz i don't have that kind of money.

and n.e. is way too far and after living in pineridge i promised myself i would never go there again ever for any reason and going on 5 months without having gone there now. nothing personnal just having my car stolen out there tainted my image of the ne.

where is edgemont????

Edgemont is in the NW. Its worth the drive to visit a guy who knows what he is doing. He is the cheapest and he is not in it for the cash. Its for sure your best route. OUr last couple dogs have had bad medical history and i wish i had found this guy sooner.

Glenmore Landing Animal clinic @ 90ave and 14st SW is where we have been taking our dog for the past 10 years... theyre really good there IMO, and not too far from where you are.

I'd like to recommend Western Veterinary Specialist Clinic (http://www.westernvet.ca), haven't been with them too long but they have been great, plus they have tons of equipment if they need it, they can be a bit pricey though, so you know.

I'd also like to NOT recommend Alpine Pet Hospital (the one across from Chinook), have had some bad experiences from them, plus they seem to not have as much experience as others.

Man. Working at an emergency clinic... and... if some weird or f-ed up routine surgery complication comes in, most likely it's a Torrance case... We don't even have to ask who the referring vet is....

Granted, Torrance is great if you don't have a lot of money.. he's pretty good at cutting costs.. but with cutting costs you sometimes cut corners.... You truly get what you pay for sometimes...

I personally would say NO to Torrance... Shawnessy does good work.. Kirsten Aarbo is wonderful..

Murray Mathewson is great. He's at Calgary North 24 hour..
Lucas Yuricek at Calgary North.
Jason Barton at Calgary North.... I think Lucas and Jason are primarily emergency vets...
I dont' actually work at Cal North... In case you're wondering if I'm just pimping out my clinic.. I'm not. I've just worked with these doctors and they are great.. Compassionate.. They give a damn about the animals..

Yeah.. Any other questions.. I'll answer. :)

i can vouch for these guys, also the same doctors (Dr Mark and Dr Stephanie) have a private clinic on 52ave se (southpointe animal hospital) if you find fish creek too busy....

Dr. Torrence is also awesome, just a little too far from where i am now...

He's the best vet, its not about the money with him. He's made some great recommendations and you can tell he really cares about the pets and he knows what hes doing.

I know he's won some awards too because one time i brought my dog there, he was away for a week in Florida to receive a vet award.
