Does anyone have any idea what it takes to qualify for cheaper collector car insurance? Is it based on mileage per year or what?

A vehicle that is not driven to work and usually less than 5K a year. You can get full coverage for around 100 / year but the not driving it to work thing really kills it. I know a couple of people if you are interested. What is the vehicle? Do you belong to a club?

I don't belong to any clubs. I've been buying and selling project cars for a while and now I'm looking at picking up a driver for myself. Something in a late 60s early 70s Mopar.
But yeah, the no driving to work kind of kills the collector insurance. 5k wouldn't last long either. Couple show n' shines in BC and that'd be it.

Look up Baker Insurance here in town. They have the best plan for collector type cars.

I had Baker on my Spitfire - they seemed quite good and cost was very low. Car must also be kept in a garage.

I only put 1000km on it last year

Is there some kind of penalty if you go over the 5,000 km?

I am not sure. you could always ask them. my camaro doesnt have a heater so I cant drive it on cold days anyways

Yeah I'm only planning on driving the car from about May to October. I guess I'll have to keep track of how much I drive in 6 months to see if I'll fit in the limits.

Anyone have any idea's what to do when your current company thinks you've modded the car too much and wont insure the car anymore?

Err put another way, your current company is not fully aware of whats under your hood :)

I'm guessing some kind of agreed value insurance, anyone know of companies off the top of their head that will do this? Or is a broker perhaps the best bet? Its not a classic or collectors car, but has ~38%+ hp over stock.

Call a broker that knows a bit about cars. There are a couple of lists of mods that can / will affect you insurance & available coverage.

"you best insurance, is an insurance broker"

sorry about that...lol
