you can buy temporary insurance from most companies i think... either way it would be smart to get it... if anything happened on the trip you would be very liable for the damages... which could be in the millions if its bad enough

what car did you import and when is it due?

You gotta go to an autoplan broker in Bc ( which are located all over the place) and give them your documents. They will then issue you a permit which will include insurance. I brought mine down with 2 days insurace full coverage was about either $53.00 for both days or one cant remember . *very easy process* iff you got all the original documents it shouldnt take more then 10 mins to do it.

i phoned them, she said they only sell ins. to bc residents. but she said for the temporary license , they give it there.

I just called my local insurance company (A-Plus) and they gave me transit insurance from LA to calgary ($250 about).

As for the transit pass, it was $24 from the local registry. I was good from the AB border to home. You'll need it from Van to Cal.

Good luck!

If the car you bought replaces and existing one you could just use the plate off the old one and the insurance transfers over for 14 days (make sure you have your Bill of Sale with you as proof) - double-check the fine print in your policy first though - TD Meloche Monnex covers things of this nature so long as you're not flipping.

One note about vins... Insurance and registries sometimes don't understand that JDM cars don't have these. They have a chassis number which is an equivalent. You need to get a rep that has experience dealing with JDM vehicles or you're in for a bit of a headache...

Just set up insurance on the vehicle, and if you have another plate from a vehicle with valid registration your good for 14days. Either do it like that, or just get the vehicle shipped to calgary for around $350. I think I used H & R transport for my mr2.
