well i was thinking to myself when i was building my manifold
and i said you know what ive never seen a really mean cool looking exhuast manifold on a 3sgte seen tons on honda's 1jz's
2jz's 4ag3's rb26's but never a 3sgte so i decided to build a cool one for my 3sgte

and what's even cooler i measured it out and it would fit right into an mr2 also

tell me what you think

:D :bigpimp:

i think the fact that there will be a red glow coming from my hoodscoop after a hard drive is awsome

i made it outt1 304 sch 40 stainless steel (1/4 inch thick):bigpimp:
not done yet but i think it's cool none the less

very nice design, i would really like to see the finished product. It almost looks like a manifold Jason Lange built for my friend's
sr20det.

thanks yea tomorow im finishing the collector my dad is gonna tig it up all nice for me then were gonna polish the shit out of it

and then theres another big thing out of the way on my project :bigpimp:

i really like how it shows through the hoodscoop

not to bad for a 17 year old punk hey ;)

Very nice, I was driving at 17 but not building monsters like you. Good stuff for a 17yr old punk:thumbsup:

Exhaust manifolds were all the rage about 2 years ago but they had real issues with cracking and no one proved them to make significantly more power and in some applications they made less.

http://www.full-race.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=839_871_888&osCsid=727be0fe06d3db316b3a50aa99c5a378

Having said that though it is becoming more and more obvious that the exhaust side of our engines is an issue so we need to figure some thing out. I hope you have better luck that most have. I am glad to see you trying to come up with your own solution. Not many people try any more. I would definitely recommend a lot of bracing fortunately you aren't doing stainless so that should help considerably. Are you using mild steel plumber bends? If you are thinking of ceramic coating it maybe wait till you have run it for a season first. That way if it warps or cracks it will be easier to repair. Any plans to dyno it?

My self I think I have a couple of exhaust manifolds laying around so I am either going to borrow War's die grinder or send one out to be extrude honed.

Hmmm
Does it have clearance without the hoodscoop at all?

Looks sweet , make sure it doesnt melt your hoodscoop away lol!

yea the cracking issue that's why the flanges are 1/2" thick

and the stainless pipe i got from work oil and gas company

there use for high pressure oil vessles and there 1/4" thick

so im not worried about cracking the inner diameter of the

tubing is slightly bigger than the exhause ports on the head

there are 0 sudden changes in the flow pattern the runnners are not all the same length but o well

nope 2 of the 3 show through the hoodscoop if i moved everything twards the right i could make it clear but i wanted it
to glow in the hoodscoop i figured i have this big hole in my
hood from the tmic wich i dont have anymore i should
use the hole haha

and yes i reallly didnt think about my hoodscoop melting away

til you mentioned it

Hmmm. Seems to be quite a deadly design.
Cant wait to see how this thing turns out :)

are they all equal length?
or will it sound like a wrx?

i guess its gonna sound like a wrx hhaha
but i dont see why my stck manifold is no were near equal lenght and it didnt sound like a wrx im hoping it flows more than the stocker

it should sound good big turbo and the exhuast will exit right behind the passanger front tire :bigpimp:

That's pretty impressive that you're trying out building your own shit like that imo. to you!

Looks a bit like mine, which is also unequal length.

If I'd seen this thread sooner, I would have recommended you completed the collector first and then worked on the runners.. but undoubtedly you figured that out the hard way ;)

stevo 27
09-28-2007, 07:16 PM
oh yea i learnt the hard way hahah

i think chris even told me but i didnt pay attention
and it just added extra time

i think the collector turned out awsome for doing it backwards :D

Man that looks great!!

How is the rest of the build going?

stevo 27
10-08-2007, 01:16 PM
yea everything clears the hood perfectly
altenator clears the wastegate theres enought room for the charge pipes it worked out perfectly :D
yea that one runner still sticks out of the hoodscoop a lil bit
i love it :bigpimp:

rest of the build is going good

my new transmission /clutch /flywheel is coming in soon
just waiting for some polished aluminum charge pipes
i bought a plug and play harness for it
but it looks like i might be going with an AEM standalone
at the beginning of the year :nut:

yea im hoping it doesnt melt my hoodscoop away tho

but it should look pretty sick :bigpimp:

To prevent melting, line the inside of your hoodscoop with the heat reflective material. That should do the trick!

You can buy the stuff by rolls at home depot.

hey seeing as the manifold is exposed to a large airflow from the hoodscoop would that not be some benefit for cooling it down a little? vs a manifold that is side mounted deep in the engine bay?

stevo 27
11-04-2007, 03:51 PM
actully you wanna keep the manifold hot

the hotter the air the faster and more it flows = faster spool up

ill be wrapping the manifold in header wrap

BUT my intake temps should be low because the 180 off the compresser sits right inside the scoop plus the big front mount

and about 10 feet of charge piping  (yea it's really tight sqeezin that much stuff in there )

and i have to move the hoodscoop 4"s twards the front of the car
for the 180 off the compresser :thumbsdow lol

this car is fighting me every step of the way .......... i refuse to lose

but it's still :bigpimp:
