Hi,

So I bought this lcd yesterday and its awesome for the price. The question I got is if I keep the extended warranty I bought from FUtureshop or get a refund. I bought the 4yr extended warranty costing me $60. Will I need this? Monitor will be getting used daily.

no, if you buy the extended, from an original 3 yr, you are really just buying the 4th yr... theres a couple perks to it, but I mostly never get it..

if they refuse to refund the extended warranty, just return the monitor and just buy same thing again.

I am also wondering about this (extended warranty), although, I would like to know about larger purchases (~50" hd lcd). Sorry for the threadjack, but it is similar question.

From what sales rep (at FS) told me the warranty at the tv I was looking at was 1 year limited through manufacturer. It only covered dead pixels if there was 3-4, and any warranty work req'd the TV be shipped to the manufacturer at your cost, and if it was deemed not warranty work, then you would be SOL, and need to pay shipping of your broken TV back to you, or pay them for parts and labor. The FS rep told me that the FS extended warranty was "full coverage" and would cover anything (PSU, remote, sensor etc), be in-home service, get annual "tune-up", and if they can't fix it within 60 days, I get a new replacement. He also told me that FS would cover 1 dead pixel within the "middle" or 2 along the outter edge...and any other problems I have, or if I think the TV isn't performing on par as when I bought it, if FS can't repair it, then I get replacement. Also, if I have had more than 3 problems with it I get replacement.

So, I am wondering, why does everyone say extended warranty is such a rip-off, and not worth the money? From what I can tell, it is "broader" coverage area than the manufacturers, and the part about getting a new replacement unit (or if my model is discontinued, then the equiv new model) seems to make it worth the extra money.

Say if I get the 4 year warranty, and 3.5 years from now, say that the TV isn't performing on par as when I bought it (theoretically it won't, as the light will be dimmer, and the TV won't be as bright, so this should count as wear/tear), I should get a new replacement...am I missing something here?? For the extra $500 for extended warranty, I *could* get a new set in a few years...?

Well they make money on selling you extended warranty and hope you'd never have to use it. But really you don't know if by the 4th year or the last year of your extended warranty or however long it is you might use it. My dad's shop see's a lot of LCD's, Plasma's etc... with this black line either going vertically or horizontally down or across the monitor. In this case the manufacturer usually just replaces it for free if your still under warranty. Otherwise your toast, and you'd have to buy a brand new t.v. or stick with the one with the line. So... there are up sides and down sides to extended warranty. I'd always get it with LCD's or any sort of flat panel t.v.'s just to be on the safe side.

Yes PSP can be returned just like the product itself it has the same return policy.

IMO on something like a computer monitor that is $200 and has a 3yr warranty... I dont see much of a point in buying it. But Ya, on a big purchase like a nice big LCD or plasma TV... I am strongly considering it.

so why do people say its such a waste of money?
