Has anyone taken the EMT-P course at sait? I've been thinking about applying and just have some questions about some of the pre-requisites.

Just call sait and ask about the perquisites. I did my EMT-P at PMA and is a superb school. Sait you have to have your bio 30 and i didnt have that coming out of high school, PMA told me that i didnt need it and that they would teach me all i needed! Saits good too but ask around but PMA, its what i recommend. Its it bit more pricey but worth it and your done 6 months faster. Much harder to get into though they only take 10 students every year. Fire me a pm if you need anything. Turbomedic is also great to talk to! Worked rural EMS and now in the city with him. Good luck man !

I haven't yet, I'm currently waiting for my house to sell before I sign up for all the programs.

You need to be a registered emr to go on a ridealong correct?

I believe so. But I also don't think that many (if any?) do ride alongs in the city.

I finished my emr in the spring through Sait. My class had only 7 people, and it was fantastic. Wrote my ACP at the beginning of September and still waiting for my written mark to come in!

Im currently in my EMR with St Johns Ambulance. So far, great course.

If I remember correctly you can apply to the city for a ride along and you get 1 a year, I think.

Could also ask the rural areas as they will have different policies.

To do EMT-P You must have your EMT-A and be registered as an EMT with the ACP.

This is a career change for me. I have two other diploma/degree's but did not want to work in an office any longer. After being a member of search and rescue for some time. And I had past exp as a MTC driver for BC Foresty(And LOVED camp jobs). This just seems the route to go.

SAIT also has all the prerequisites for the program on their site. But some of the pre req's differ between schools.

I'm registered as an EMT-A here in Alberta, I would recommend SAIT and PMA for a Paramedic Program but honestly every school has their good and bad points.

Stay away from Flatline though as that school was garbage. St. John was great for my EMR.

Honestly I wouldn't worry too much about looking into Paramedic programs until you get your EMR and EMT done and get some experience as an EMT. A lot of people I have went to school with have actually branched off into other parts of Healthcare and Emergency work after taking their EMR and EMT so I'd give it some time before you worry about your Paramedic.

Get some experience, make sure you love what your doing and then apply to the Paramedic Program.

One thing I do suggest to EMT's when they graduate is to work industrial for a little bit, it's an interesting experience even though you don't get much hands on experience. Plus you can make anywhere from $240-450/day and you can use your free time to study some Paramedic books and stuff like that. Then maybe look for work on a rural service before working in the city. Of course you can do whatever you want, just giving you suggestions from personal experience and from other EMTs and Paramedics.

If you have any questions in regards to any of the EMR or EMT-A programs, feel free to PM me!

So I did some research into the EMR programs offered through SAIT and PMA. The certificate at PMA is 80 hours, while the duration at SAIT is 176 hours. That seems like a huge difference to get the same thing.

Any advice? The SAIT class is only $70 more...

Have any of you heard of the Alberta Health and Safety Training Institute? They offer the EMR and EMT courses. My wife is looking into this as a career path and this place seems to be much cheaper. I just wanted to see if anyone in the field has heard of this place.

Also, does anyone know if you can do this sort of work with aesthma (controlled aesthma)?

Honestly, take your EMR anywhere, as long as your somewhat smart you'll have no problem with the course no matter where you take it.

Just stay away from Flatline Response, trust me!

I went there when I originally took my EMR, just brutal. The school had a good rep back then but the class was horrible, terrible admin, very disorganized, etc

I still shake my head that we paid $7k or whatever it was to take our EMT there.

can anyone give me more information and details regarding the process through schooling?, can you take the course through St. Johns ambulance then go for your EMT through sait?, my only concern is that i dont have my bio30....

regardless, what is the average salary for an EMT?...

I took my emr- and emt through Alberta health and safety, I highly recomend them to any as they have the highest pass rate at ACP and dont let people just glide through the program as some other schools are bad for doing.

My other piece of advice is any school you to go to is only going to be a good choice if you turn it into one, be prepared to put your life on hold while your going to school cause if your not eating sleeping shitting out the knowledge you arent going to be prepared.

Otherwise have fun and always remember students get puked on.

Average salary depends on if you do rig work or ambulance work, plus at the end of the day if your doing it for the money you picked the wrong career.

Emt 35,000-50,000+ ambulance / 250-450 a day on a rig

Ps Sait will allow u to challenge the bio30 exam as a mature student

Emt-p 45,000-70,000/ 600-1100 a day on a rig
Very ball parked wages
