Hey just wondering if anyone on here has gotten a cell phone from oversea's

It is a Tri-band cell phone that uses sim car and is unlock but I keep getting no service when I turn it on.

I've tried setting the set nework feature to auto and manual and it still comes back as unable to find network connection.

Any help would be great.

thanks

not exactly sure, it might be the other way around but I think its because in Canada we use 850Mhz whereas Europe and Asia uses 900Mhz

4 frequencies are
850
900
1800
1900

I dont really know what model it is but its a I-mobile, my wife likes it because it is tiny and cute.

We were told by the seller it would work in Cananda and have friends who got cells from Vietnam and they seem to work ok.

SO dont know why this one is not working.

Under the settings in the phone there is the network option which has

rogers,
mobilna srps
vodafone GRC
Base
GRQ-telecom
Tim GRC
vodafone NLD
telfort BV
m Mobistar

I tried selecting rogers etc but it keeps saying no service

I remember a friend getting a phone from Vietnam that was unlocked but it wouldn't work here because we use a different frequency like cityhunter mentioned.

some triband phones don't use all frequencies at once, it might be set to use 900/1800 which won't work in canada, you should be able to change it to 1900 which will work. it might not be exactly as I've stated but similar, you don't need to search for network as again its probably not set to the right bands, somewhere in your menus it should let you change the bands, should be in the menus near your network settings.

Canada uses 1900 but rogers is now offering 850. Some phones in Asia are actually dual band which is 900, and 1800. Tri band is usally 1900, 1800, and 900. 850 is the newest frequency and is offered on quad band phones.

You may have bought a dual band phone.

Well this is the phone I got, I was told by my friend that lived there and come to Canada often that it should work.

Pretty sure Vietnam only uses the 900 band so if it's not tri/quad band it's not going to work.

Don't think anyone can help you unless you get the model number or post a picture.

Hey guys, I don't think the phone is going to work here.

I've checked on other sites and some people are having the same problem as I'm.

The phone is a I-mobile 309 DZ
MP3, AM/FM radio phone, really small like 3"x1.5" only

King of why my wife likes it, small white girly...oh well, Im going to send it back to VN for my friend to used.

When we were in the store buying it they had doc on it stating it was a triban and the sales guy assure me it would work here. My friends wife a a similar one that seem to work here so I dont know?

Thanks everyone for all your suggestion.

The i-mobile 309 DDZ is a dual band that runs on 900/1800.

This is the phone right?

Yes that is the phone, so its only dual band then hey?

Hmmm...those bastards in VN told us it was Tri-band.

Anyone know if there is anyway to get it work here?

Its probably just your phone that doesnt work here. I bought lots of phone from vietnam and they work very well no problems, some of the phone i bought were Nokia N73, razor, Samsung, etc.
