Anyone ever sent a TXT message oversees from your cell phone? I am on Rogers and I want to TXT message my girlfriend who is currently in Japan using a Japanese cell phone. Anyone ever TXT message internationally?

With the whole international dialing thing? Like the country codes and all that?

yes starting with 011 (country code) and phone number..

basically the same as if you'd make an international call

for example when i send a text to Korea 011-82-10-111-1111

Its alot to send a text just so you know. Well not alot of money but more then a usual text anyway. I remember from here to mexico it was like 60cents a text or something. So im not sure how much it would be to Japan but it adds up quick! lol

Okay cool. I will call up Rogers during lunch to see if it costs any more. I wasn't sure if there is a "long distsnce" fee of sorts for txt messaging as well. I will ask them and post info here for other members to know

For sure there are more fees.
Texting in Canada is free (no ld charges) but anything outside of Canada is expensive. I remember sending a few text messages from Vegas and it cost me an arm and a leg. I'm sure Japan would be much worse.

Rogers has some sort of international texting plan that you should check out when you call them.

I found the easiest way was for them to call you on your cell, program it, and then go to the name, compose SMS. Both ways are ultimately the same.

Okay cool, actually found all info on rogers site before calling. Its 60 cents a message to send out there. I can send free from PC, but rather not. Only need to send like a few messages over 2 week span, so not a big hit by any means

Sending from a PC is free but charges the recipient. Someone will always be charged in the sending/receiving of a text message so if they can't identify the sender, they charge the recipient. And some providers' servers don't support certain lengths of numbers for text. Telus only supports up to 15 digits so the countries that have 16 digits or more in their numbers are not supported for sending texts to.

think it is around $0.20 from a rogers phone.

and as stated above just enter the entire phone number international code etc
