I was driving behind one yesterday, not a huge Mustang fan, but these are really nice.

That's actually a regular GT with Shelby badges stuck on it.

Fake, unless it's a Hertz edition with silver stripes instead of gold.

Looks real to me? Shelby GT's do exist. Only in black and white. I have a buddy with a white one here. He brought it up from the states. They have the full ford racing suspension and power packages uping the power to 325hp and dropping the car an inch and a half... cosmetically the powered by ford badges, hood scoop, etc. They also have the spoiler delete. They are numbered on the dash with carroll shelby's sig (which you can see in one of the pics - although blurry)

The Shelby GT is the GT-H with a different colour scheme. Very marginal improvements over the GT.

So, yeah, I guess it's technically a Shelby, but in name only.

Beat me to it.

The real Shelbys have a ducktail spoiler and the "SHELBY" lettering on the back is off to the drivers side. Different Wheels, hood, and fascia too. Its not a Hertz either though, unless he bought it, took off the spoiler, pulled off the cowl hood, and then put the stock one back on and tacked on a cheap non-functional hood scoop.

There seems to be a quite a few GT500s around calgary. Ive probably seen 7 or 8 of them in the last couple months.

EDIT: by real Shelby, i meant a GT500.

Different hoods, but yah pretty much.

As far as it being worthy of the shelby name, thats for you hardcore shelby guys to debate haha. I could care less. But it is technically a shelby ;)

I was about to go take another picture of the dash but it's gone now. So what does that mean if it's got the Shelby logo on the dash? Carroll would have had to reworked the engine on it right?

It's the vanilla GT engine with a cold air intake and an ECU reflash for a total gain of 25HP over the GT.

IMO, it's just Ford whoring out the Shelby name.

Don't they actually get him to sit down and redesign the blueprints of the engine? Like Lingenfelter?

ScottysZ

Nope, Shelby-whoring, as stated. I guess he felt he needed to soil his name and make another few million before he died.

It's all a scam anyways.
I like the hood-pins though, very retro looking!!

I like the Top Gear where they test the GT500. They dyno it and dident even make close to 500 hp so they took a sharpie and on the side after "GT 500" richard wrote "not quite" lol

That would be me, but that car in the pictures is not the Shelby GT500 , but rather the Shelby GT.....as stated above, it's a 325hp suspension and appearance package (w/ slight motor mods).....

The GT500 is the 500HP unit, with full input from Mr. Carroll Shelby ....

Ford is making a special edition mustang like the Hertz Edition. But it will be sold to the public from Ford dealers. It has a slightly modified engine, puting out about 330hp.

Edit - I should have read the post above me, looks like we have already established this.

That's the funny part.....the engine HP is 500, but at the wheels (with drivetrain loss), it put down 440HP......so what Richard wrote was somewhat skewed....(and incorrect)...

The even better part is that it show how ignorant that lot is to North American cars. the 500 isn't indicative of 500hp, it's was just used to show how much more superior the original gt500 was to the gt350, and they got the 350 because they just wanted a random designation that didn't really mean anything. (to be specific, it was the distance between Shelby's shop, and the building across the street from him)

Oh i know that. I still thought it was funny lol. Isent 60 quite alot to lose at the wheels? or is that pretty average?

More loss than that, 14-15% on a manual, 20-25% on an automatic.

Please don't tell me you can't tell the difference between BHP and WHP either.

If you want to get technical, the Hertz edition is an actual Shelby, and the GT500 is not.

The Hertz ones (and the GT-H that they sell to the public) actually go to Shelby's factory for the retrofit.

The GT500 is built entirely in-house by Ford and never touches a Shelby factory floor.

The real point of this thread, Shelby is Ford's whore. Can't go a day without a new Shelby Mustang being made and mentioned across all the different car blogs.

it's pretty easy to figure out by using the internet to find out the specs of the car .

http://www.svt.ford.com/

there are the following shelby's beign produced...

- Shelby GT :thumbsdow
For those who wish they had enough money for a shelby lol

- Shelby GT500
Beautiful car. Quick. Steers like a cement brick (it doesn't).

- Shelby GT500KR (King of the road) :nut:
540 hp/510 torque
And took the GT500 suspension and redid it so it actually can turn now apparently
