Did 96 come in an SS model? If so, it was likely typical 90's chev upgrades. SS got you some racing stripes and heavier wheels.

I guess the other obvious difference would be the name. One's called a Z28 and the other an SS.

Edit - Smartassedness aside, I guess it also may have come with leather interior, 6-speed manual tranny with 3.42 gearing, T-Tops and a Bose CD stereo I think? Functional forced-air induction?

The SS has 17" rims, functional hood scoop, freer flowing exhaust. Hood scoop and exhaust good for a total of 305hp. Stock 1996 Z28 is 285hp.

The difference isnt actually as big as Chev rates it at, same with the gap between the later camaros and vettes, which werent really 40hp apart.
A no-option LS1 Z28 will beat an LS1 SS since they are really only about 5hp different and the SS is a lot of extra weight, since as mentioned, theyve pretty much all got all the options. Id assume LT1s would be the same.

If youre talking cosmetic, they just have a different spoiler, hood, and wheels.
