I recently moved to victoria, and my gas milage has halved.... I know there are alot more traffic lights and you tend to drive around in 2-3rd gear more than in calgary.. but still im getting close to 160km for 25bucks worth of fuel on a b16!!!! help please!

thats not too bad...my buddy was getting 200 km's for $70 in his 300zx TT HAHA :D

To help your problem...or make an attempt...any engine codes? :dunno:

fuel management could help? also if i were to seafoam the engine.. would that help somewhat?

Try that fuel additive you put in once into your gas tank. Can't remember exactly what it is called but it cleans it all out and improved my gas consumption.

Check for codes, do a tuneup including plugs, cap, rotor, oil change. Could be an oxygen sensor...or a plugged cat if you are running a cat. Your mileage shouldnt go THAT bad because of traffic...altho depends on how much MORE traffic you are seeing i guess.

and yes, try Prestone fuel injector clearner, and maybe a dose of Lucas fuel injector cleaner as well...both seperate doses. Prestone seems to be the most concentrated and best working one ive used so far.

the thing is i did a major tune up before i moved out here.. (so the car could make it through the rockies) so everything except the distributor was done. Mind you did not check o2 sensor... would a code be thrown for that?

fuel injector cleaner? i have heard/read reviews on seafoam as it is apparently really great on the engine and cleans all the crud away.. anyone on here tried it?

w/ a o2 sensor, is sometimes that it could be on its way out but not bad enough to throw a code yet, but still would lower gas mileage.

If you have done a tune up then check the o2 sensor. If that fails you must remember you are on a different elevation then Calgary so maybe a quick simple re-tune will get you what your looking for.

if i were to remove the o2 sensor could i clean it and then put it back in place? or do i need a new o2 sensor?

thanks beyond for the hasty replies!

You cant really clean it...its more of a replacement item. They are cheap man...... when youre putting your new one in, DO NOT TOUCH THE PART THAT GOES IN THE MANIFOLD...i cant stress that enough, finger grease WILL mess it up.

will an o2 sensor from an obd0 engine fit it? are they all the same or what?

IIRC OBD0 is just a 1 wire sensor, while OBD1 is 4 wires. I'm fairly sure it won't fit.

That's pretty bad, I figure that bad you should be able to get no less than 300 kms with spirited driving, but 160km is even extreme for that unless you idle for 10 min, drive only 2 kms each time.

Not that bad. =)

I get about 350kms on $45

So for about $25... I should get roughly 175. But I blame mine of my tune... I'm getting retuned soon though, so hopefully that'll solve my issue

EDIT: I also have a b16 FYI

Yeah try replacing the sensor and get the fuel enjector cleaner. Found at canadian tire. I always put one in when i do an oil change.
Also check to make sure your air system is good. That your filter is clean and you havent sucked up a squirl lol. A K&N filter will help also.

The price of gas in Victoria is higher than Calgary. Hopefully you've considered that ;)

He is talking km per tank i believe....? Price of gas would only effect is bank account.

actually its not that much worse.. its sitting at 1.04 a litre right now.. which isnt bad at all... :D Beisdes, i fill my car, and its aclose to 30 litres... and im only getting that many kilometres for a tank...

i picked up some injector cleaner from crappy tire... also put in an engine restorer that relieves sticky valves etc... I got my hands on a fuel filter, which I may swap this weekend.. Ill scout the area for a o2 sensor.. there seem to be a shit load of efs out here, so getting one shouldnt be that much of a problem!

*EDIT* also air system is clean.. running a cai, and the filter looks fairly clean. How about cleaning the intake plenum with a tooth brush and carb cleaner? would that helP?

I don't understand how anyone could get fuel mileage that poor....

:bigpimp:

But yeah, if you're going to talk about mileage, please try and compare apples to apples... l/100kms or mpg are the the two that are most common... km/$ isn't really useful.

(I go 450kms on $17 FTW)

Haha, he sold the supra. It's for the smart car... :burnout:

Yeah, it's for the smart...

If anyone is interested...

The best fuel mileage I every got out of my Supra was driving with BerserkerCatSplat to DTP Edmonton. I think I averaged 35 mpg @120km/h. Which isn't half bad for a 300hp car.

And some other trivial knowledge,

The best ever fuel mileage recorded by a Canadian smart over at least 1000km is 2.23 l/100 kms, or 126 mpg. (By Serge in Quebec)

Mileage is 30-40% worse in downtown/west end vancouver compared to calgary. But the distances are so short it ends up costing less for gas overall.

Maybe also check your wheel alignment. You could be scrubbing speed and making the engine work harder.

Maybe also your driving habits such as hard acceleration from a stop-line, lots of overtaking, etc. Easy ways to dump fuel before you know it.

when was the last time you changed your spark plugs?

maybe a wheel alignment should be done.. i changed the wheel bearings before i came out.. but did not have enough time to get an alignment done

I did all that before i made the road trip out here.. so a month ago i guess!

so i used an injector cleaner, some sort of valve crud remover, and I changed the spark plugs again, and the car is back to normal! ive almost doubled my gas milage haha:clap:
