fender bender (police report?)

Got into a little fender bender, I want to get the car repaired without going through insurance. Do all bodyshops require a police report before doing any work even if insurance will not be involved? Anyone suggest a good place to get a bumper/front end repaired.

Police Report/Sticker is only if it exceeds $1,000 if I remember right, might be $1,500.

Something I've always wondered - if you have a minor accident, but the value is greater than $1000 (not hard to do with today's plasticy cars (sic)), but not overly high, say, $2,000, do services like carfax show those minor accidents?
