I just finished a bigass paper, and my computer froze right after I saved it. But once I rebooted it and tried to open it again, Word said it couldn't open because the file was corrupt. I tried the open repair method it suggested, but that didn't work, and I really don't want to rewrite this paper. Any help is appreciated.

Google's your friend buddy.

I don't know if this demo works, but it's a start.

yeah I tried that already.
It didn't recover the last file I saved. When I tried that, it just recovered my name and date at the top of the page, but no content. I think I just have to bite the bullet and rewrite. :banghead:

Try opening it in notepad. You will either see tons of garbage, and somewhere amongst all the garbage, see some of your original text...or you'll just see tons of garbage. Might get lucky though and find at least some of it.

I opened it in wordpad, and I did get a bunch of gibberish, but that's all I got. I tried copying and pasting into MS Word, but just got more gibberish. But I'm already rewriting. But anytime I rewrite, it feels like a shittier version of the first.

look in the default temporary location for word, and it depends on which version you are using

google 'word temp file location' for your version and search there

good luck

Try installing Open Office, open the file, and then save as a Word doc. Worked for me!

I already bit the bullet and rewrote the paper, thanks.
It also happened to me again last week with another paper I was writing... I think its time for a new computer.

You may recover word docs owing to word recovery tool (http://www.recoverytoolbox.com/word.html). The application owns easy to use and intuitive interface. The software is able to use modern methods of repairing word documents after power failures, hdd crashed, viruses.
