Interesting to see such large decreases in sales from some manufacturers. I wonder if cross border sales have had a significant impact on the sales numbers or if atleast the knowledge that we are paying more than we should is detering people from buying in the hopes that prices will come down.

Any thoughts?

Could be a function of kids returning to school. Money and focus is on school.

Doubt it. Honda had the biggest drop @ 12%+, and nobody's importing new honda/acuras since there's no warranty.

they say when auto sales drop, then comes the collsape of housing price. Not that housing isnt already dropping, but things to come? slow down?

while I am totally in for a strong loonie for great buying power, I rather have the economy to be affordable again. Cars, house.

I think for some companies (like Honda) importing is definately not hurting their sales (due to the warranty issues) but people's perception of how the company is pricing cars in Canada vs. the US maybe.

I think that people are waiting for the prices to come down forsure. I know I would be waiting if I was in the market.

Not entirely true.... Dealerships are offering extended bumper to bumper warranties (not thru Honda) on new Hondas that are valid here in Canada. Only catch is it's $2000 to buy and there's a $50 deductible for each repair. Entire amount refunded if not used within the 5yr/75000 mile period. Perfect for big stuff like minivan power sliding doors and tailgates. For small stuff, just pay out of pocket, then claim the $2000 in 5 years.

And just b/c new car sales have dropped slightly is meaningless. It's too hasty (and easy) to jump to a quick conclusion. There are just so many explanations. Honda is dropping in sales because the new Accord isn't out yet. It should pick up again as soon as we see them in showrooms (I hear Accord sales are very down, esp. when the Camry was released).

I don't think they are here in volume yet.

Honda is still clearing 07 in majority of Sep.

Yah the market has been slow... I've heard the market in the states is also slow as well. The Economy is in a slow down right now.

In the U.S.:

+ Honda sales up
+ GM sales up

- Ford sales down
- Toyota sales down

Stats on imported cars (http://news.sympatico.msn.ctv.ca/TopStories/ContentPosting.aspx?feedname=CTV-TOPSTORIES_V2&showbyline=True&newsitemid=CTVNews%2f20071011%2fvehicle_imports_071011)

Looks like the government expects a significantly higher quantity of imported vehicles than they have in the past.

^^ LOL yeah what is the first thing anyone does in a demo as soon as they leave the lot? Too bad that Lincoln will lose most of it's value in 2 years. :D Kudos to Ford though for not imposing stupid rules (ahem Honda, Toyota...).

On Wensday we went to Shaw GMC to look at the Buick Enclave we talked about importing one from the US and they handed us a sheet of paper with all the 'pitfalls' of importing a vehicle from the US. If we import a Enclave from the US its $43,000 canadian. If we buy one from Canada its $61,000. Thats $18,000 that can be put towards insurance, or a vacation or what ever. The sales person said we werent the first ones to talk about importing a car from the US. Im sure it has effected the amount of people buying cars from Canada, but Im sure in Calgary some people have made so much money they dont care about saving $18,000.

BUT if a person has enough money that they dont care about saveing 18,000 dollars... wouldnt they be looking at a much better vechile then a Buick??

The Enclave is probably the best Buick, best Crossover ever made. Honestly, they compare it to the Acura MDX, Lexus RX, Mercedes ML class. Those are all pretty big players. And the Buick matches up to all of them.

The buick is a piece.. its way too heavy for the size of engine it has, the interior looks like the smoking room at the legion, and its a van chassis and looks so ugly.
