Description :
I bought this bike last year and have put about 16,000 kms on it in about 5 months of riding. What can you say about the gixxer 1000? It's wickedly fast, smooth, and handles like a 600. I've also found it quite good for touring, probably because I'm over 6 ft so I'm not too hunched over. Done many 500 km days and a few 900 km days without needing a chiropractor after. Oil has been changed every 3-5K with semi-synthetic oil, new filters each time.
The bad news is I laid her down last year during a trip through the BC interior. Took a corner too fast and ran out of road...fell into a pile of gravel. Got up and rode away, but there was some minor cosmetic damage, which you can't really see unless you're within about 5-10 ft. There's a small crack in the upper fairing and scratches on the lower, the crankcase, and mirror (left side). You can't really see the damage in photos unless it's a close up shot.
It was garage kept all last year and properly winterized and stored in a heated garage during the winter. In August, I put on brand new Pirelli Diablo rubber, which are even better than the stock Bridgestone BT014s. I've done two short track days at Race City (one last year, one this year), but other than that I ride her pretty gently. Lots of highway kms from long trips last summer. Chain and sprocket are in excellent condition as I'm meticulous about chain maintenance.
I realize it's not a great time to sell a bike, but I thought what the hell. I absolutely love this bike and certainly won't mind keeping it another season, but as I 'mature'..lol...I find myself interested in trying something else like a dedicated sport tourer.
