Japanese photographer gunned down by Burmese troops

Very sad to see this sort of thing can happen in today's day and age.


These are the shocking images from Burma of a Japanese journalists as he lay dying after soldiers opened fire on thousands of anti-government protesters.

Kenji Nagai held his camera above his head to continue taking photos even as a soldier pointed a gun at his chest.

He was one of at least nine people who were killed when troops opened fire after ordering the protesters to move on. Another 11 were reported injured.

I had the opportunity to be in a ceremony performed by a burmese monk yesterday morning. He just came to Canada a week ago but was in India prior to coming here. I would have liked to talk to him about what's going on at home but it didn't seem appropriate at the time. Such a tragedy though.....

I read somewhere that when volunteering for the assignment he said something to the effect that 'someone has to go where no one else wants to go, and to tell the story that no else wants to.' IMAGINE what footage his videocamera had on it...

It happened a week or two ago, during a recent protest that's been going on for at least two months. The military crackdown and protests are still happening as we type.
