it can....but why????? you ruin the balance of the nice little pocket rocket when you drop in a HUGE engine.

yes it can be done, you may not have to to cut the fire wall back as the motor sat far back in the corolla and make room for a bigger rad. bonus is the motor mounts in the corolla are very simmilar to a v-8 in the vega. Just gotta get rid of that damm engine shock mount on the drivers side.

The rear end of a vega, or s-10 should fit in if you plan on making a little more power (5 bolt hub VS 4, plus there is a bigger aftermarket for the chevy rear ends) and you can play around with a ferio front end suspension if you wanna keep 5 bolt on all 4

EDIT:
Steve Harrington ran a 86 Toyota Corolla with a 455ci in the super comp 2003 Easter Thunderball over in france

everyone thinks that V8 swaps in cars add sooooooo much weight, thats bs. I'm planning on a chev 350 swap into a volvo 240. the weight added over the front wheels won't be more than 50 lbs if I relocate the battery and use lightened parts like aluminum cyl heads. V8 swaps done properly with ford 302s usually add 150 lbs, with chev 350s about 200 lbs. Though the corolla has a 4age, which is probably pretty light so the 350 may add quite a bit of weight.

Some cars that are really good for v8 swaps are older jags, 240z's 240sx's, rx7's (buy a 1st gen for real cheap)

2JZ/RB26 swaps would be nice:eek:I wonder if they fit in the engine bay without having to cut out the firewall/rad support.......

or you could do what hot rod magazine did...

chevette + 500cid caddilac motor = Fast with no traction.

if you used a aluminium block out of a 90s Camaro or other late model muscle car , the LS1 is an aluminium block. the weight would be close to the original weight of a iron block 4A. include the tranny and ECU and you would have a smokin corolla.

also if you want to keep the axle/hub the same get a 79-81 supra rear end. they can handle up to 400 hp and are limited slip. direct bolt on mounting wise but need a new drive shaft

How close? A 4AG is barely over 100lbs. A T50 Tranny is around 70lbs.

I remember that buildup series, also there was a web video floating around of it, the thing was killer and spun the tires the entire quarter mile, even with slicks...
Their first runs were 13 second timeslips with crazy MPH figures, I wonder what ever became of the 'vette?...Max

i know someone putting a 2.8 in a chevette.

can't argue with the facts, it weights next to nothing (under 2000 pounds) and can fit a v8.

its more than a shoehorn job from what i understand.

but a v6 would fit with ease.

how about a 4.3 turbo (syclone/typhoon) mated to a t56 in a chevette ;)
