View Full Version : Tirerack.com - cheaper than anywhere in Canada

I've been looking at winter tires and they are A LOT cheaper than anywhere in Canada by far due to the PAR Canadian dollar. They also include all the GST, brokerage and customs fees in the total unlike before where we were left wondering how much these fees might add up to.

Just thought I'd let everyone know. I was looking for LM 25 Blizzaks for my BMW and they are about $425 cheaper than anywhere in Canada including 1010tires.com

it used to be that you would have to pay duties but now tirerack.com includes that in your invoice. This is what the site now shows. The cheapest quote I got on these tires was roughly $1250

holy shit i just bought a set of michelin x-ice for my car and thought i got it for an amazing deal. Well it is compared to anywhere else locally. But tirerack is only $655 when its all said and done. Thats like a saving of $200 off my already discounted x-ice's damn.

Interesting. You'll have to update once you actually get your tires to see if they're on the mark with that. Thanks for the heads up.

This thread prompted me to peek around Tirerack's website and I came across this :

http://www.tirerack.com/accessories/ttr/tire_storage_rack.jsp

I'm interested in getting it, but the site says that the item is "estimated" to be available near the end of the month (?).

Anybody seen anything similar to this in town?

Hmm I am looking at some 215 50 17 winters. Tire rack price is about $50/tire less before shipping etc. But with duty, shipping etc the prices are pretty close.

Tires $530 or so
Shipping $110

Additional Fees and Taxes
Excise Tax: $0.00
GST: $37.68
PST: $0.00
Duty: $38.08
Provincial Tire Fee: $16.00
Brokerage Fee: $30.00
Grand Total: $776.42

Savings is $60 or so over local shop.

Guess it depend on the tires, wheels etc. I got Kumho KW19 for my Outback at really good prices and cheap shipping from 1010tires before.

I didn't go thru the ordering process but if price is $200 or so more and duty will reduce that amount, I am thinking I am ok to pay $50 - $100 premium to have local service. Kaltires are usually good, and then our sponsor's here.

Hmm... just priced out X-Ices on tirerack... would come to $516 after shipping/duty/taxes... then I'd have to get them mounted, not to mention waiting for them... Costco quoted me $560... think I'll get them at Costco... Or go to tirebob to get some cheaper tires...

No kidding.

"cheapest in canada" is a bit of a stretch, especially here in Calgary, we have some real good local suppliers, Tunerworks, Urban expressions, CMS.

I saved $100 by buying locally vs from tirerack.

No one has posted their experience with Tirerack yet, did you all decide to buy locally?

How long did the tire take to come in and was the packaging good? Any additional fees?

I priced out tires for my MDX on both Tirerack and locally. We just ordered from Tirerack because nobody could come close to pricing. Not sure how you found x-ices to be so close in price... for our vehicle tires at Costco totalled $850 plus taxes, but included installation.

For the exact same tires at Tirerack, cost was about $630 shipped including taxes. We decided to also buy alloys for winter, so our grand total came to $1134 shipped, including taxes, duty and mounted.

So basically we spent an extra $200 and now have alloys for the winter tires which means no installation charges every winter.

I'll post again when I receive the tires and if I had any extra charges...

Same here.
I found trying to buy locally for rims and tires the package would of cost over $5,000.
I found Rims for $1260.00 and tires from tire rack $1300
$2560 for the same wheels I was quoted 5K for from multipule shops listed in this post.
I understand that everyone needs to make money but 50% over cost is retarded

I must sound like a broken record --- but --- we will never let the Tire Rack beat our prices by more than a few % and sometimes we can even beat their prices, all while providing friendly local service and you get to support the local economy

Not only that but tireracks selection of winter tires is limited to say the least. There are some very good alternatives of equal or better quality to the tires they have for sale that sell for a good deal less.

I got my winters + steelies from Tirerack, and couldn't be happier. The total price calculated at the checkout is what you pay, nothing more or less. It took about a week for my tires to come in, and there isn't much in terms of packaging. They just had some circular cardboard cutouts strapped on either side of the steelies to protect it.

I agree... good on him for trying to match.

If I could find the tires & rims I wanted locally at close to the same price, I would definitely have bought them. I checked with several local businesses and the quotes I got were anywhere from 20-50% higher and sometimes they were even a lower quality tire.

is there any warranty through tirerack?

I don't like buying cheap on tires. I hate seeing guys driving $50,000 cars and bragging how they spent $200 on tires..hope you don't expect that car to perform well

the best part about guys like that is they spend $500 on shoes to walk around in and $200 on tires to drive 200+ km/h on. i dont get it.

A set of Work WHeels would of be great!!
After I was told the bad news on the wheels I would of never of thought to check on the rubber. If the price was with in a few % I would of be willing to buy locally. Best locally for rubber I found was 1700$

Exactly... if it was a few % I would definitely buy locally. I'm getting the exact same tires both ways, just spending less one way.

Tirerack doesn't sell 'discount' brand tires, they sell premium tires at a discount. Sorry, no Kumho or even Hankook. As for warranty, not sure how it works as I saved over 50% per tire so I'm not worried about road hazzard etc. As for the selection, they easily had just as large selection, if not more than what i found in town.

My experience was very good. Very knowledgable staff if you phone in. I bought premium alloys (not sport edition gravity cast rims) and premium brand winter tires with tire pressure sensors for just shy of 1500$ shipped to my door (i got a 50$ rebate). And if you order rims, they will mount and balance before shipping. I called three places who wanted 3000$ WITHOUT pressure sensors.

Tuner1, you should really do some radio ads or online banners to promote your tire sales. I didn't know about your shop and would have supported you instead if the prices were close.

I bought two sets from Tirerack just about a month ago.

Arvived at my doorstep six days after ordering, no duties, no brokerage, no nothing.

Not sure about the price, I stopped shopping after I ordered them. No point getting mad about something I can no longer change...

I have a tire machine in the garage, so I didn't have to worry about trying to find someone to do it for me.

Without getting too far O.T. ... our WORK wheel prices are very competitive and we probably sell more WORK wheels than any other shop in Canada. Not to mention that we have in-depth technical knowledge of the brand, do annual visits their factories and know a thing or two about custom wheel sizing ;)

Maybe we can help you with your next set of wheels

Thank you for the feedback. You are right that we could and should do more to promote our tire prices, however, for better or for worse we have been so busy for the past few years that our "marketing" campaign has fallen through the cracks :banghead:

When we move into our new facility (Dec 17th) we'll have more space to take on additional business so I will focus on more promotions.
