Buying used struts/springs?

What issues should a guy watch out for when buying used? I found a guy selling used koni yellows w/h&r springs for $500.00. Don't know the mileage on them.

I'm usually pretty leary about buying used stuff unless I know the person who had it.

He also has an AEM front and rear big brake kit for $500, approx. 40,000 km on it.

Any thoughts on what to look for on either item?

I'd be more cautious of the struts than the springs. This is only my opinion, but unless I know for a fact that a set of konis was only on the car less than 1000 kms, I'd by new struts. Maybe take the springs off his hands though.
