Just f'ing great. I've got exams this week and this shit happens.

I am using my PC one night and turned it off because I was going to sleep. I forgot to DL an assignment so I had to turn it back on. I hit the power button...it powers up........and then nothing.

Symptoms are as follows:
- PC powers up
- PSU fans are spinning
- HD's are powered up and spinning
- CPU fan is spinning
- Monitor does NOT change to ON from standby mode (ie: even though the computer is turned on, the monitor is NOT turning on automatically, as if there is no signal).
- No beep and no beep codes
- No lights visible on the mobo (I know my other PC has small green LED on it, can't see any on this one)

Whats the diagnosis?? This happened totally randomly, no new hardware changes or anything, the computer is only 2 years old.

System Specs:
- Mobo = Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9
- CPU = AMD something...I can't remember the exact model, pretty sure it's a Athlon 64 3000
- 1 gig ram, PCI express video card (128mb I reckon), overall a decent computer that I got built just 2 years ago.

Any insight would be appreciated as I'm stuck without a PC at home now :(

you got a gigabyte mobo haha..
similar thing happened to me on my gigabyte comp
but none of my fans would spin
when i started the comp the fans would begin to turn on and then then they would just stop.
it turns out that the capacitors on the board were leaking.

i only stick with asus now

good luck solving the problem

Yank the power cord outta the back, let it sit for a few minutes... plug it back in, hit the power switch, if nothing press Reset and wait, try Reset a few times... Start removing hardware like RAM, unplug CDROM, then HDs, eventually remove cards... should get you a beep. POST codes are in the manual. Sometimes RAM or a card just needs to be reseated. Quickest thing to do is pop the HD in another machine to get your stuffs. G'luck!

Is that one of them with water-based capacitors? Had a few Abits blow up cuz of that  Could be the vidcard as well, try reseating or booting without (should beep), got a spare?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague

theres an article talking about leaking capacitors
theres a liquid inside the capacitor and because its the wrong formula over time they can bulge and leak

Sounds like leaking caps to me too
Look at the capasitor on the mobo and see if any goo is coming out of the top
