Like the title says.. when? I am looking to upgrade my 8800GTS to get a faster card for Crysis and I am pretty sure we are due for a new round of video cards right away here.

New generation of graphics cards are released approximately every 18 months. The Geforce 8 series was released November last year.

I'm sure your 8800 GTS can run Crysis just fine though.

I'm not talking about the new generation, I'm talking about the second revision of the same gen. So the 8900 basically... and I don't think the 8800 GTS will be able to run Crysis in 1650x1050 with all details maxed.

I don't think there's really a solid date yet; there's the 8800GT and the RV670 coming within the next month, but they aren't high-end, more entry-high-end or high-midrange.

I think the next high-end are Q1 2008 at least. Which sucks because NVidia had promised 3 times the speed of the 8800GTX by the end of this year.

There's always SLI powa!

November is when the nes 9800's will be out, there will be a GTS version and a GTX version. The GTX version will be about equal to two(2) 8800 Ultra's. Pricing is 549-649 USD for the GeForce 9800 GTX and 399-449 USD for the GeForce 9800 GTS.

I can run BioShock at 1920x1200 with all details maxed on a 7950GT.

I think you will be fine with your 8800GTS for Crysis.

Didn't G92 (which was the 9800 GTX/GTS) change to teh 8800GT?

I hope you're right, but..from what I gather the rumor mill has changed.

^^were you using AA? I have a 7800 GT superclocked and I could run at either 2xAA 4xAF at 1280x960, or 4xAA 4xAF at 1024x768... (with all in-game details on) it shouldn't be THAT much slower than yours...

G92 isn't Geforce 9. It is merely a refresh of the Geforce 8 series:

yeah. Is there still a G90 though? It seems like it's fallen off the radar. I want my 1 teraflops like they promised damnit! Need to know if I should upgrade now or wait as well. 8800GT  unless it's sub-$200 with GTS performance... I will dream.

lol personalyl im waiting for the 9 series to come out so that I can finally get a 8 series for cheaper :(
Is there any "new must have" technology that is going to come out with the next series?

as well does anyone know if more games are starting to support/utilize a physics card?

There will be an 8900GT coming out in 256, 512 and 1Gb version either late this month or early in November. The 512 version should be better than a 8800 GTS 320 MB. I think I heard the pricing will be about $250US for the 256 MB version and about $400 for the 512 version. I think this is the answer you were looking for in your OP.

I was really looking to move into the absolute high end, but that might work. 1gb of video RAM might be a requirement to run some of the new games on full detail, especially ones like UT3 that use so many large texture maps.

i'm in the same boat as you, 8800gtx and can't wait for a nice upgrade... Gonna do a 3.0GHZ core 2 duo over clocked to 4.2ish and get a physx card for the time being... but im more concerned with UT3 and Hellgate London, Crysis is another story.
