View Full Version : Cheap Cars from the USA

I thought it may be interesting for people to post prices of cars that are a good deal right now from the states, given that the CAD is 3 cents above the USD. If you know it, mention if the warranty transfers or not.

All below prices are before GST (6%), Shipping (~1000), and in some cases duty(6.1%):

Here are some I found:

Brand new 2008 Subaru Legacy GT, Auto w/paddle shift, Navigation, every possible option, $29,444 (quoted by a Washington dealer), no duty (Made in USA). That is one hell of a deal. You can get warranty work done here in Canada, but you pay for it and then Subaru USA reimburses you. Pretty small price to pay for $15,000 savings.

Here are some used cars I was checking out, prices vary by state and mileage, with the below representing the lower end:

2006 Lexus IS350, going for as low as $28,000+ USD. Warranty transfers last time I looked. Tons of them available from around $33,000. Even if you bought one with high mileage it's only 1.5-2 years old, and if your a low mileage driver it will be low mileage again in a couple years.

2000-2001 BMW M5 - $26,000+

2002-2003 Porsche Carrera 4S ~$48,000+

2006 BMW 550i - $43,000+ ($75,000 at Calgary BMW, over $100,000 new).

2004 Audi S4 ~$28,000+

2005 Subaru Legacy GT $16,000-$20,000 (unbelievable deal as well)

2004+ Lexus GS430 $~26,000+

That's all I can remember for now.

don't you still have to pay duty on the car regardless if it is made in the U.S or not, i think it goes by manufacturer not where it was assembled, but i could be wrong.

I wonder if anyone will make a business of doing the legwork of importing cars...IOW's if I wanted a car but didn't want the hassle of the paper work and the travelling and such...someone does all that and delivers the car for a fee.
Considering the cost saving associated with a vehicle such as a Lexus...woouldn't it be worth say $1500-$2000-$2500?

I dunno where I read it, but some US car dealerships are not allowing Canadian Citizens to purchase new cars...

Generally, you do not have to pay duty on a vehicle imported for personal use that was manufactured in the United States, Canada or Mexico

Some of the New Volvo product is pretty nice as well for the price. I believe the warranty is transferable. Not 100% sure yet.

Isn't there really only one other possible option? If he is wrong that there is duty, one could reasonably assume there is no duty with no further clarification.

I've actually been looking at setting up a business to do this as the paperwork and bringing it in is a pain in the ass, but if you've done it (I have) then it's not too hard to go through again. PM me if you maybe want to set something up because I'm more than willing to do it and at this point would not charge much. I'd like to do it at this point for the experience.

So how much would it cost me to bring....Let's say a 2005/2006 STi? With all the taxes and whatnot?

for one with around 25,000 miles on it you're looking at just over or around $30,000

Not anymore.

The Canadian 08 Turbos now base at $159 and include items that were options on the 07s.

Also, about the MDX... Careful, Acura won't transfer the warranty.

You could never import the 00-02 S4's as far as I know, but the 2004 S4 is news to me.

The Cosworth
10-19-2007, 10:28 AM
dealership in Vernon, trying to sell at 2002 325Cic with 75000 miles for $34,000.00. I did some research and am going to offer them $24,500.00. They have about 10 or 12 US cars on the lot and trying to sell them for what BMW Canada is selling their used ones for.

If someone does start a business.... 2002ish M3 for me... let me know!

My brother-in-law is looking at the exact same vehicle. He says that he has found a dealer in Couer-d'lane that will do the import paperwork for him. Same price too, around $28k all in. I'm looking for information on how much he'd end up paying at the border, and whether it's on the RIV list or not. So far it's okay to import. Also he says that he talked to Toyota Canada, and they WILL honor the warranty on the vehicle. :dunno: I'm still doing the research for him though.

I cant find a dealership that will sell to Canadian though. They all state that you can't import it unless its been registered in the US or bought and paid for by a US citizen.

If someone finds a US toyota dealership that will sell to canucks please post them up here

Thanks
