hahahaha yeah sure. The Carrera GT runs 10 seconds a lap faster than that. The 997GT2 is also much faster and the GT3 and 997turbo are all within a second.

CGT ran a 7:28, but the GTR is still notably faster than quite a few high tier cars. impressive stuff!

Nurburgring in GT4 doesn't really get exciting till you break the 6 minute mark. After that, it's pretty intense!

Could anyone make out the top speed on the last big straight section? It looked like he got it up to 230, I'm not 100%.

Canmorite

^Way more then 230. That straight is super long and I wouldn't be suprised to see 290-300 km/h.

G-TR > 911 Turbo in every aspect

the 911 just hasnt changed much in body for the last 20 years and it really doesnt look all that sexy. the GT-R is appealing and new, and not to mention a whole lot faster for cheaper!! :)

Nissan's Kazutoshi Mizuno reported the car was running on cut slicks instead of production

That may have had something to do with it.

Those look like RE070s to me...

Trust me, I would LOVE some proof that it was on slicks so all the nuthuggers on my350z.com would just shut the fuck up. Please provide a source for the quote :).

They should send the Ultimate GTR, or the Capro T1 on slicks. They would probably rank higher than the Skyline.

If you can't admit the 997's aren't sexy, I think you may have something wrong with you. Ever see a white 997 Turbo up close? You'll understand why they don't comestically "change." Their style goes along with the 911 history that is pretty damn impressive.

The new GTR is amazing too. All that car for such a sweet price. But these two cars are in very different classes.

Quoted from the link given above on the uk site:

"HONED AT THE 'RING

GTR chief engineer Kazutoshi Mizuno told PistonHeads that his baby had covered over 3000 miles at the Nordschleife and avoided other circuits as they were deemed 'too easy'.

Nissan's original target was to beat the 911 Turbo at the 'ring but they ended up worrying the Porsche Carrera GT.

They didn't beat the GT's 7min 32sec lap time, but got a 7.38 in semi-wet conditions.

'We used cut slick tyres' said Mizuno.

'I was not interested in full slick times as this bears no resemblance to a road tyre. 1.2G of force was being pulled in wet and over 2 in dry'."

So ya it was running on semi slicks.

Why does he stop the time on the last corner, and not further down where the time started?

I wondered that too. The Radical SR8 that holds the track record for road cars used the same timing method as the Nissan GT-R --- neither car uses the pit straight nor reaches the actual starting point.

Some manufacturers measure their Nurburgring times starting at the start/finish line and ending at the start/finish line. Some say that Porsche and GM are two manufacturers who use this method.

Start to finish is actually 20.832 km. Due to safety concerns, most timing stops 200 metres short of the actual starting point, at 20.6 kms.
