im sooo positive that i saw a older black skyline on the southside of edmonton today, either that or it was a stretched MR2 with the closest conversion i have ever seen. Does anybody know about this car? I know its in edmonton and all, but i figure a car like that somebody must know. Damn i wish i had my camara though. Pics would help so much...

he said he saw it in south edmonton...that looks like an older model...isn't it that after 15 years you can bring any car into the country? if so then probably that's how these ones made it over

if its over 15 years old you can import it, register and insure it.... therefor you can drive it legally.

R32 GT-R is not 15 years old yet. June 2004 is when the first 600 Skyline GT-R's manufactured in June 1989 will be eligible for registration in Canada.

After that it's about 300 GT-R's a month which begin to fall into eligibility.

The other day I swear I saw a GT-R as well, turns out it was an impala with the sport package (and color matched tail).

I'm willing to bet ZR Auto will be importing them. They already know how to deal with paperwork for 15+ year old cars (Mini imports).

ok this is perfect timing, me and a buddy's talking about importing vehicles as well while this thread was going.. he found this pdf file from Customs Canada, i'm hosting it on my site if anyone wants to look at it.. read page 8 and 9 for the details.. something about new cars being exempted from the restrictions?

Let's say you have a friend that lives over in the states.
Could you get that friend to buy you a skyline and register everything from there, and then drive it up all the way here over the border?:dunno:

Shit, I had no idea there was an R32 here... That's awesome, but I really want to know how the guy was allowed to bring it here, insure it, and liscence it.. Thats wicked though.

Just curious, does anyone know a ballpark estimate of how much it would cost to buy an R32 GTR from Japan, and ship it here once they become legal next year???

Picking up an early model GT-R will be difficult since production didn't really pick up until August of '89. Total production for the R32 GT-R was about 40xxx not including a limited set of Nismo and V-Spec/ V-Spec II which were later produced in '93 and '94. Irregardless, it's not going to be easy to find an R32 produced in May-July of '89. So if you're in a rush, you'll be paying a premium. For a 15 year old car in fairly good condition, an GTS-T will fetch about $15k and the GT-R about $20k.

Ya, I didn't really know production was so slow at first with the R32... But I am definately in no rush at all, just curious... Maybe by the time I have enough money for one, I can save up more and go for the Nismo 400R. :bigpimp:

hmmm i thought the only ppl that can import skylines was MotorEx? or are they just the distributor for the states? or all of N.A.? and do the laws in the states differ from ours. that 15 years of age thing to be driven legally on roads or what?

I saw that skyline on whyte ave saturday night. I have to say though, I was a little underwhelmed. Cool that it's rare, but it's kind of a plain looking car IMHO. How quick is that generation? It's a 2 litre turbo inline 6 right?

Anyone can try to bring one in. MotoRex just spends a lot of $ to federalize the cars so it's legal in the US.

There is no 15 year rule in the states.

It's not just cool cuz its rare, It is an amazing car. The GTR has a 2.6 litre in line 6, which is twin turbocharged. It is 4 wheel drive, with four wheel steering. And it's engine internals are capable of 600hp without mods. It is an awesome machine, not just rare.

Where are you that you are seeing all of these? Japan?

The one in E-town isn't a GTR. It's just a regular skyline. I totally agree that the later model GTRs are awesome.

I love the later ones alot. I have only seen 1 up close in real life. When i was in russia there was a white R34 GTR. Soooo nice. Probably freshly stolen from japan and "imported". It was in Vladivostock. on the east coast. There are so many japanese cars that even though everyone drives on the right side of the road, every car (minus a couple of lada's) is Left hand drive. Silly indeed.

4 wheel steering is an option, most are 4wd only.

I thought the Super HICAS 4ws comes stock on all the GT-R's??:dunno:

Some of you nissan guys out there...what's your take on this system. I hear many people with this system bypass it when they go for big power?? Any reasons as to why?

unstable at high speeds would be my guess

Ya, all of the GTR's come stock with HICAS 4ws. and just like Szw said, it can be unstable, and some just don't like how 4ws drives, especially if you want to go drifing! :D

I get to see Skylines all the time :D

HICAS becomes unstable at speed, but another big reason why it is taken off race cars is its weight.

RB motoring have started legalizing them in the states i believe along with Motorex?

FYI, GTR's actually started in 1987, there was a special limited production run (Janspeed were involved i believe) before the full release in 89
