Quick question regarding CF hoods:

These CF hoods are not factory hoods with a CF laminate on top, they are full CF hoods, correct?

If that is the case, how much R&D and testing on these hoods were done for crash test safety? It is my understanding that CF does not have the same properties as aluminum or steel, suggesting that in a crash, regular hoods will bend/crumple as they are designed to in order to absorb some of the impact and prevent the hood from entering the passenger cabin. CF, on the other hand, is much more rigid than steel or Alum which means in a crash, this otherwise pretty-looking hood has huge potential to turn into a projectile capable of entering the passenger cabin during a head on collision.

Think about that before you all decide to CF your rides...hopefully I am way off, but if not....buyer beware.

Shadowz, I am also by no means trying to kill your business, please inform myself and everyone in this thread if I am wrong.

Much appreciated,

Mark

Hey Mark I understand your concerns, no these are not full carbon fiber hoods, just fiberglass hoods with carbon overlay, how most companies do make their carbon hoods.

I have seen a couple vehicles with VIS hoods that have been in front end collisions and these hoods do crack and take the impact other than just staying in one piece and say cut through the firewall. There are no concerns at all with these hoods, the latch is screwed in and hood pins are suggested by the manufacture. Hope this clears some things up and if you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Thanks and regards,

Nice Nick!! That actually makes me one step closer to getting one....the safety concerns were high priority for me, as I already know they look PIMP! What would the cost be for a standard CF (black/grey weave) hood for my 1990 300E? I also assume same shipping/wait times as other less common hoods, am I correct? Please let me know when you have time...this mod won't happen until sept anyway. Are the VIS hoods prone to cracking/flaking/rubbing off as I have seen on some cars at the beyond/403 meets? Your info is appreciated...

Does VIS offer a SiR 'style' hood to fit an 88-91 CRX with USDM front end/lights? If so how much? How much for the OEM and ZC style hoods for the same 88-91 CRX? Also, what's the weight like on these units? Thanks!
