Book early for Capo as they fill up fast. Also, they only have two sittings per night, I believe it's 6:00 and 8:30.

Q Haute

My friends brother is the Head Chef for this place.

They have a decent tasting menu, ask for a private room.

Be prepared to spend around $400 minimum with a bottle of wine.

Did this use to be La Caille on the Bow?

Check out Belvedere on stevens ave. Great food and a really neat place, good mix of original hardwood/brick and modern amenities

And ya, that is the building where La Caille was. Q is upstairs, Oceana is downstairs, both are mediocre.

Yes, Q is part of what was La Caille. But Q can't hold a candle to La Caille.

I vote Capo, or a trip to the mountains... Banff/Lake Louise...

^ Someone please take smugglers off that list please. That place is a dump, it is better to compare that place to BP's in the ghetto.. haha

Q Haute is pretty good. The view is unmatched and there really is great service and food.

I prefer Carver's though, but that is if you want a nice steak.

Ruth's Chris steakhouse is opening soon too... worth a try for your next anniversary! haha

Belgo sucks ass. Small portions, expensive as hell and really really bad service. I will never return to that place. :thumbsdow :thumbsdow :thumbsdow

Ceasars Steakhouse has been fantastic every single time. It's the only place I go because they serve a perfect steak. I usually sit in the lounge since I'm dressed really casual and prefer a relaxed atmosphere while watching sports on the big screen. You won't be disappointed in the dining room service.

Well, I would have to agree with you with Belgo about the portions and price. Service wasn't that bad but I went with a group and spent over $2K there. I had to try the $12 poutine!

Yes, but entirely different owners, menu and service.

The location is the only thing that is the same.

Its one of the very few restaurants I know in Calgary that offer a tasting menu.

Most just have entree's

I've been to CAPO a number of times...the food is very good.

The only thing that I don't like is that the tables are crammed into a small space. Yes it's intimate but I don't really care to sit RIGHT beside other diners.

Do they have a tasting menu?

Their site is down right now.

You have two choices when dinning at CAPO...order a la cart from a menu with a decent amount of choices or have the Chef's dinner which is essentially a tasting menu.

Personally I like to order a la cart so I can try different apps, pasta, and main course instead of you and your wife/gf having the same selections offered in the set menu.

One dish I do recommend if you go there is the lobster gnocchi...it's out of this world.

while its more of a "date" place, i love Open Sesame. good food, great atmosphere. Price wise its great, but maybe for a fancy friday rather than a anniversary

Calgary has many restos with tasting menus. Capo, Il Sogno, Teatro, Belvedere, Q, Muse, River Cafe, Rouge, Jaro Blue, and for Japanese omakase, Blowfish. There are also many places that serve only or predominately small plates or plates to share: Jaro Blue, Wild Ginger, Opus on 8, Artisan Bistro.

Calgary is probably more entrenched in the NON-entree trend than any city in Canada.
