Hey all!
Got my new engine and tranny tonight. It's a 4A-GZE from a Levin, sticker on it says it has just over 83000K on it. It's gonna need a little work to get it in. I snapped a few pics with my phone. It has some kind of aftermarket exhaust header on it, but I can't read Japanese so I don't know what brand. The O2 sensor hole seems to be blocked off. I haven't looked through the wiring harness for the O2 sensor yet. Here are the pics:

The exhaust header, you can see the block off plate on the bottom of the header

Does this mean what I think it means?

That last pic has me curious.... is that an LSD?

Berg

if you see clear through its LSD, if its got a bar or 2 in the middle its non-LSD

ah... i had it backwards.

No problem, means i will use the lighter NA MR2 tranny. Any Ideas on the exhaust header?

No from what I've read on MR2OC the bar means that it is an LSD tranny. Straight through it non-lsd unless u have a trd lsd or an aftermarket one meant for non-lsd trannies.

Ok.... now I'm confused.....

So how can I find out without tearing the tranny apart if I have an LSD or not?

throws some axles in, turn one and if the other turns in the same direction then it is an lsd tranny.

oh yeah make sure the tranny is in neutral

hmmmm.... no spare axles lying around, but I will see what I can do. Thanks for the info!

Anyone have any ideas as to who makes the header?

me neither, sorry lol. I'm sure if you posted better pics of it someone might have more of a clue then.

I'll try using a real camera tonight. Get some better pics.

Upon further research I believe that this engine came out of an AE101. It has the longer (grey handled) dipstick and has the smaller SC pulley. Might start taking it apart to see what I can see tonight.

for the tranny's off the 3sgte the "bar" meant lsd. Could be different in your case. I dont beleive the "spining one axle" idea works

Didn't have any axles that fit, so I couldn't do it. I did try to spin it using my fingers, but that didnt work. The splines seem to be in four parts: Outter left, inner left, outter right, and inner right. And I could only spin one of the outter ones at a time.

One thing that I did find interesting, there is no evidence of an O2 sensor anywhere. There is a plate blocking the hole in the header for it, and I can't find a single wire that would reach. I just find that odd.

Berg

Removed the engine from the back of the truck tonight. Snapped a few pics with a real camera this time. It's still not the best but here are some shots:

Engine on the floor:

Best shot of the info plate on the header (I need a better camera):

Removed some of the extra bits:

The power steering pump, A/C condenser, alternator, and intercooler have been removed. Engine looks pretty clean. The power steering pump and A/C are up for sale. I'll probably sell the intercooler too, but we'll see.

Cheers,
Berg

the o2 sensor on later models doesnt bolt to the header it bolts into the exhaust pipe just off the header.

Even if that tranny has LSD you might be hooped because you need the LSD axle stubs, normal axles stubs arent long enough though they look almost identical.

I didnt find any wires that reached where the exhaust would be on the front of the engine for an O2 sensor. Is it possible that the O2 sensor is in the exhaust after it's passed the oil pan? I only ask because I found a wire that would reach that area. I'll probably get a wiring diagram and start tracing wires on the weekend.

If the O2 sensor goes elsewhere, maybe I'll put an EGT gauge where that plate is. I really dont want to drill into this header.... it looks so nice. Just wish I knew who made it...

Berg

the o2 sensor goes after the flex pipe, almost right underneath the oil pan. the wiring for it should come down from the intake side.
