I've just been reading up on methanol injection, and how you can use washer fluid. Some even saying they run straight washer fluid, winter blend.. Does anyone have info on which is best, or what to look for/ what to avoid? I found the msds on petro can's (which I have a bunch of), it's say's it's 40-50% meth, which seems good, but I can't find if it has any detergents or anything for bugs that may be harmful...

"7. Can I use windshield washer fluid?

Although most contain some glycol and detergent, most windshield washer fluids are up to 50% alcohol (methanol, ethanol, isopropanol) and make an excellent Boost CoolerŪ. Try to find one that indicates "contains methanol".

And they make the kits, so it seems pretty legit. Just finding the right type is key I think...

Personally, I don't agree with running washer fluid because of dyes/detergents that may be in there. I just go down to peavy mart and buy a few big jugs of methanol and mix my own with filtered water - 50/50. That way I know exactly what goes in each time, every time.

Edit - yeah, snow performance say you can use it too and lots do without any problems from what I have read but I just like to be certain. I won't put anything questionable in my car.

whats the cost? per litre or gallon or whatever they sell?

A four litre jug is 7.99. I went through three jugs this summer in total. Of course you'll go through more or less depending on your application/nozzle size but it's not that much. The jug says methyl hydrate on it I think, it's basically campstove fuel. 99.9% pure methanol.

washer fluid? washer fluid is over 35 percent water

yeah you can also buy pure methyl hydrate at places like MEC and crappy tire, it's alcohol stove fuel. I wouldn't want to put in washer fluid.

Wow, after reading up on that, it seems pretty insane. I wish I had a turbo :(

It's worked out fantastically well on my S/C'd application. Last season after a couple hard pulls at 6psi the effects of heatsoak were very obvious even when it wasn't hot out. This year, when it was 30+ in July I did pull after pull after pull at 9psi with NO heatsock issues whatsoever.

I don't have it tuned to it's full performance potential with meth, I've kept conservative to avoid any engine damage in event of W/Mdelivery failure. I could lean out the A/F by likely another 0.5-0.7 (running 11.3-11.6 w/ W/M right now) and advance a couple more degrees of timing at full boost wot for sure and likely see another 10-15 whp without breaking a sweat. I won't do that till I'm ready to rebuild though just in case!

I have this on my S/C application as well, i have been using washer fluid with no problems so far. (knock on wood.)

And odds are you never will either. I just get extra cautious sometimes, hence the mix my own mentality.

Cool, thanks guy's.. Not sure what I'm going to do yet, but I'm looking over kits, and reading up on making your own so we'll see what winter brings.. But running 30ish psi daily sounds pretty sweet.. :burnout: New intercooler just showed up the other day :bigpimp:

That's massive! How do you inject the methanol into the engine? Is it done through the TB?

Just before and at very high pressure to atomize right.. 150psi have been the norm I'm looking at.. And its usually just a small tank, thats lasts a tank of fuel or so..

I did a lot of research before and the snow performance one is the best made and best supported one on the market. I wouldn't bother making my own, they've got it perfected and their support staff is absolutely fantastic on install/tuning tips.

As far as the tank size goes, you can utilize your washer fluid reservoir and then a tank of W/M lasts for weeks

... But then what do you use to wash your windshield?

The same stuff. You're essentially running winter washer fluid when you run 50/50 mix, just minus the dyes/detergents. Still works fine. It's a nice soluction for a bigger reservoir since it's all methanol resistant tubing already.

One thing I haven't been able to sort out is, if W/W is 50ish% meth, whats the other half? is it not water? If so, mixing 50/50 ww/ water would result in only 25% meth...

But I have read w/w may contain alcohol and other things, so it would be tricky to know exactly what your getting/ mixing..

If you do use washer fluid you wouldn't mix it with anything, just inject it as is. The different manufacturers will have slightly different %'s of methanol and it's important to make sure that it is methanol and not glycol or whatever which is the main reason I mix my own. I seriously recommend just doing that, it's not hard to pour in one litre of water and one liter of methanol. Then you know each and every time that you have exactly what you want. You're tune is dependant on the W/M ratio you are using so why risk getting 35% meth from one jug, 45% from another or what have you? I like consistency when running off boost maps!

My snow kit just arrived, with some other goodies..

Things to note:

- Aeromotives "compact" fuel reg is what they claim, this thing is tiny..

- UPS shipped express does work well, example:

On a package worth $150 (claimed 150 anyways), you pay roughly 50$ extra in duties when it arrives. To ship it express is almost an extra 50$, so since you have to pay that anyways, you may as well get the package in a couple of days and not have to pay much when it gets here, I paid gst = 8 bux...

- Good thing I've been getting rid of "extra" shit under the hood, this snow pump is a heavy son'bich...
