"According to sources the 2.0L turbocharged coupe is going to start at $19,900 and the 3.8L V6 with 300 horsepower is going to start at $25,900." Sounds like a good deal:eek:. However Canadians probably won't see this price.

Orbie
11-08-2007, 03:31 PM
Man, they look like they took the lines from every other mid-size coupe out there and smashed them together. I see G6, Accord and Altima Coupe all in there. Not much original that I can see, however it will be nice to have a cheap entry level RWD coupe (I4)on the market though that can compete with the Mustang V6.

Not bad effort. Now does Hyundai honor US warranty?

$26K ($24K cdn) for a 300HP RWD coupe sounds very tempting.

a few years back, i heard that honda was scared of hyundai as hyundai was where honda was 10 years ago...

It's weird tho, cause when i was in Korea something like 30-40% of car owners in korea drive hyundai's (not 100% sure it's what my cousin told me). And everyone of my family members who own hyundai's or have owned them told me they've never had any problems with them.. I guess they ship the faulty ones out here....

I'm still not a huge Hyundai fan, but they are getting a lot better quality... and this new tib looks pretty hawt

I'm diggin' the whole package, looks nice, good power and a great price. I just hope the buttons on the interior don't feel cheap and shifty, for some reason thats a real turn off for me. I have sat in a few Hyundai's and this seems like a common characteristic.

For the price and power and what you get. Certain Hyundai packages are hard to beat, the only downside is the lower resell value, but then again, you wont have to pay much to start off with.

I've always thought the current generation of Tiduron is a fantastic looking car! Much better looking than any of the current Japanese compacts. I've driven a few of them and they are very smooth, solid, and quite quick.

The new model looks good, but I don't know if a RWD coupe is a smart idea, considering who will be buying it... mostly young women. How did the Tibby become a chick car???

HYUNDAI UNVEILS REAR-WHEEL DRIVE CONCEPT GENESIS COUPE

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 14, 2007 – Hyundai unveiled its highly anticipated Concept Genesis Coupe during a press conference at the Los Angeles International Auto Show today. The concept car heralds the introduction of an all-new, rear-wheel drive 2 + 2 sports coupe scheduled to join the Hyundai lineup in the spring of 2009. Following the introduction earlier this year of the Concept Genesis sedan, Concept Genesis Coupe signals Hyundai's second step in broadening its appeal to driving enthusiasts.

The Sonic Orange concept is complemented by a Ballistic Black carbon fiber hood, roof and ground effects for reduced weight. Strong hints of the production version are highlighted in its "Z" bodylines and powerful curves. When the production sports coupe arrives, it likely will be the most affordable 300+ horsepower car on the market, and the most dynamic performance car yet from Hyundai.

"Concept Genesis Coupe is the most thrilling, most emotional Hyundai yet," said John Krafcik, vice president, product development and strategic planning, Hyundai Motor America. "When it hits the market in early 2009, we aim to deliver a driving experience that challenges cars like Infiniti G37, at prices more like Mitsubishi Eclipse."

DESIGN PROCESS
"The mission for Concept Genesis Coupe was to create a pure performance car with a design that would capture the imagination of hardcore automotive enthusiasts," said Joel Piaskowski, chief designer at the Hyundai Design Center in Irvine, Calif. "With its aggressive look from just about any angle, I think we have been able to do that."
The powerful curves, surface detail and "Z" bodyside lines come straight from the same underlying inspiration that guided two earlier, well-received concepts: the HCD9 Talus and the HCD8 sports tourer. The undulating beltline borrowed from the Talus adds intrigue while enhancing outward visibility for both the driver and rear passengers. The HCD8 sports tourer's sensual body forms influenced the overall design theme while also providing direction for the concept's assertive headlight and taillight designs.

The look of Concept Genesis Coupe was in part inspired by LeMan's race cars, drifters and by Jada Toys Dub City™ die cast vehicles. The front and rear stance of the Concept Genesis Coupe can be described as sinister.
"Beauty and danger co-exist in the design of the Concept Genesis Coupe," said Eric Stoddard, senior creative designer. "When viewed from a distance, the car is beautiful to look at. But up close it can appear a bit menacing and even a little intimidating."

The concept's rocker panels are drawn close to the ground making the bodysides extra thick and the daylight opening extremely thin, allowing the wheels to be slammed up into bulging fenders. To complete the aggressive sports car look, the depth between the fenders and the greenhouse has been maximized.

Three large heat extractors sculpted into the hood are designed to cool just about any powerful engine. When the concept becomes reality, three large openings in the front fascia will allow for better engine breathing. The dual exhaust tips integrated into the rear fascia repeat the design theme of the front cooling ducts and are surrounded by a large carbon fiber air diffuser.

An arching roofline and tapering greenhouse highlight the exterior profile and emphasize the car's broad shoulders and wide stance. Concept Genesis Coupe rides on 20-inch polished aluminum deep-dish wheels with Hankook 255/35 ZR front tires and 275/35 ZR rear tires.

Appreciate the vote of confidence. From what I read in the article (and I apologize for misreading it if I did) There was going to be a Turbo 4-cyl and then a V8 w/ 300HP, I didn't remember reading anything about a V6.

And yea, I would debadge it. I just hate the look of the Hyundai badges. I don't like the brand overall, and one car wouldn't really turn it around for me.

What does "souping" up a civic have to do with it? I bought the car with 1/2 the mods on it. And I'm a college student. Meh.

I expect a response from Vince. He usually jumps on any of my late night posts for some reason. Doesn't matter what I even say.

Hyundai has been doing really good in their newest models. We just picked my SO up a Elentra. Very nice interior, proper price point, good Consumer Report reviews and little features that come standard that Toyota and Honda won't match. They are really working hard as a new company to gain market, it's refreshing to see.

It's not as ugly or as bland as I was expecting. But it's definitely up there as one of my least favourite coupé designs. Not a big fan of the side gashes: it's even worse than the 3 or 5 series BMWs (I quite like the M5, any M3, 7, 6 and Z4). The front air intake also looks a bit odd. Ah well; there are some people who will lap it up.

looks hot! It is good that Hyundai has decided to go the RWD route on its entry- to mid-level coupe. It is very encouraging. Toyota should learn a thing or too from Hyundai instead of just maximizing margins and put out boring cars.

People that have been in/drove the latest Hyundais would know that this vehicle will be just as good or better than the competition, in terms of fit-and-finish and interior material. I have been very impressed with Hyundai lately.

Take it as a step in the right direction and as a company actually producing a car people want, not just one "that'll do"...

Allthough i probably wont buy one, i bet it will sell well.

i dont know why it took GM so damb long to bring over the G8, and i dont know why Ford wont bring over their (mondao) RWD V8 platform. How is it that Hyundai can beat both these guys to market, in their home market?

Good for Hyundai though. An agressave move that will shoot them to the top.

Genesis Coupe (Tibby) will come in four cylinder + turbo as well, i heard it's gonna be 215hp
