Every time I get out of my car and touch the door to shut it I get a shock. Not a little bitty static shock, but a HUGE painful static shock. Does anyone know what I can do to discharge this thing?

I remember seeing a type of keychain which is supposed to be able to discharge the static. Try any auto accessories shop may be.

You can use someone else to ground the car for you or put plastic bag over seat to eliminate rubbing between fabric. :D

I love my leather seat. ;)

get a grounding strap. they attach under you rear bumper and drag just above the ground.

probably can find em at cdn tire or autovalue or something like that.

I actually never thought about that. I'll check out that strap.

Or if you have a wing, why not add discharge wicks used on aircraft? :)

My Camry and my previous vehicle, Tacoma, both did the same thing. It's not a mild shock at all haha..I just use my leg or arm to shut the door now.

wow your car is shocking you???? i thought that was only reserved for cool facebook pics and well chicks hahha....

no all kidding aside it seems common as weather get's dryer as winter comes along. But there is strips you can buy that usually discharge whatever excess electricity is accumulated in the car...

My car (06 civic) shocks me too. I usually just use my legs to close my car door.

i'm too stubborn to do anything about it haha, other than silently curse anytime my hand makes contact with the body of the car on my way out of it

yay he made a funnay11!

i heard the rubber things that go on the rear bumber dont really do much, maybe try and make sure ur negative battery terminal is attached well to your chassis.

i have a camry and never had a static issue...

Try this-as you get out of the car hold on to the door-not the handle but the metal. Don't let go until you close the door.

I'm guessing because I cleaned up my grounds after I had electrical issues.

My Corolla, Camry and older MR2 did that all to me. Hugheass shock......i never found a way around it besides closing the door by touching the glass.

Tell your girl to open your doors for you. That way you can say that you gave her the shocker.
