Carfax is only useful in the USA although it does show some history behind a canadian vehicle. I carfaxed a prelude before and carfax didn't show any accidents on it or liens. I then head down to the registry to find out that it had been in an accident and it also has a $2000 lien on it.

Just to be safe, I'd use carproof as well as going to the registry and paying the fee to get the check. Unless you're buying a POS $1500 honda civic, I would pay the extra fee for any purchase just to ensure that you're not getting raped in the ass.
