So after odering a set of Composite Clay's and not liking the heavy weight, I'm considering a "real" set of Clay 9g authentic casino chips.

Has anyone here played with or own a set?

There is a site on the net that allows you to custom design your own set, the mold, the edges, colors and inlays.

A custom set would be around $300-400 depending on what you want.

Here is the site.

Some feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks,

B

I have played with a set of real clay Paulson chips and I think IMO there are some cheaper alternatives to spending $400 on a small set of chips.

I would recommend spending considerably less and getting a set similar to what myself and Maddog55 have.

You can get these for about 7-10 cents per chip and the acrylic case is another $60 or so.

They have a good feel at 9g, they stack and shuffle well and everyone that has played with my chips has preferred them over any 13-14g set.

Go to chiptalk.net
you'll probably find most of your answers there

I bought them from www.straightflush.ca over 2 years ago.

The owner (Ivan?) was on Beyond (username StraightFlush) so you might be able to PM him and see if he has a supplier of them.

Well I ended up ordering a set of ceramic (casino grade) 10g poker chips today.

They are Grand Royale Ceramic Chips. And believe it or not, I was able to find them for .30 cents a chip.

So I ordered 500

See them here.

You will like these chips, Coupe. Ceramic chips are beautiful chips to play with. Palms Casino as well as the Luxor use Ceramic chips. .30/chip is a great price too. I actually like ceramic over clay/clay composite. And on a side note. Unless you're spending over .75 cents per chip..they will NOT be clay or clay composite. All those "so called" clay/clay composite 11.5 chips are actually ABS plastic with a slug. even if the company says "real clay" they wont be.

Even those ones that I have, the "Las Vegas Pros" are really just a plastic composite chip, but they are the best feeling chip out there until you get into the higher end chips.

You can go to chiptalk and talk about chips there...but believe me..those guys are CHIP FANATICS!!!. They almost scoff at you unless you're spending over $1,000 on a set of Original Paulsons or Chipcos. There's so much information over there its almost too much. I am a member there as well.

Ivan, over at straightlush, has real nice ceramics as well. But they're custom printed and a little more pricey, but definately worth the money. Couple of buddies got chips from him. He's a real standup guy.

Who's doing the shipping for that company? If its UPS expect rediculous "brokerage" charges from them. you wont pay any duty, just GST on the value of the chips plus brokerage. USPS is the cheapest way to get shipping from the states.

^ word on those las vegas clays, I have 2000 of them, very very nice chips... i compare the feel to a lot of high end chips, and there are a group of people at chiptalk who loved them at some point of their collection career or still do.

Hey maddog55 and sputnik, I'm interested in knowing what kind of denom split you guys have going with those chips. I acquired mine from multiple sources so I have something like 350/500/290/385/300/100/100 give or take.

http://www.pokernstuff.com still sell the exact ones, but i think their quantities are limited

these chips (las vegas) are discontinued, if you have them still, anyone who has some should keep them as they will undoubtedly hold their value!

89coupe, the ceramics are a great chip... I had 1000 Desert Sands before and they werent too bad, but I must say I still prefer the las vegas. The ceramics I find "clank" a bit louder than normal. Those ones look nice though, but the denoms, everyone has poker chips these days, it's nice to come across a set that actually has denominations on them! to each their own though, and as maddog55 said, ceramics are much nicer/pricier in general than those las vegas clays (a misnomer if I do say so because I think they only have at most 30% clay topping... but less of a misnomer than clay DICE chips argh :thumbsdow ).

Oh one other thing, the en vogue (it's big, not super huge yet) of the poker chip collectors now is collecting "plaques", like these inspired by casino royale...

http://cgi.ebay.ca/CASINO-ROYALE-10-PLAYER-TOURNAMENT-PLAQUE-AND-CHIP-SET_W0QQitemZ260175832954QQihZ016QQcategoryZ63760QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Can you imagine? "forty million, five hundred thousand, i'm all in"

Well after doing a ton of research, no modern chip is pure clay. They are all clay composite.

I hope you are right about these ceramics. I read a number of reviews that said these chips are of high quality, so I hope im not disappointed.

I just want a chip that looks good, feels good and shuffles nice :bigpimp:

Oh, and I really wanted a chip with no denominations. All the games my buddies and I play count each chip as $100.00

I put together my own set based on how I usually structure my blinds.

300 x $5
300 x $25
200 x $100
100 x $500
100 x $1000

I personally find $10 and $50 chips to be pointless IMO.

I also regret wasting my money on getting $5 chips since for the most part we start playing at $25/$50 blinds now.

Even so, I can still quite comfortably host a 16 person tourney with my chips. People just have to deal with having a smaller sized stack sitting in front of them.

Yeah I use the whites ($1) blues ($10) and reds ($5) for my cash games.
That way I use the same denom's as casino's (25, 100, 500, and 1,000) for my tourneys.

I have

240 x 25
290 X 100
150 X 500
50 X 1000

Gives me enough for a 22 man T10,000 as well as colour ups. But I need to get some more for my 4 table tourneys.

Also I'd like to get more whites and blues

Do you guys actually have that many people over at your house at once?

We are lucky to have 6 guys, let alone 22:nut:

How quickly do you up your blinds?

We go every 15min, starting at.

200-400
300-600
400-800
500-1000
1200-1400
and so on.

25/50
50/100
100/200
200/400
300/600
400/800
500/1000
600/1200
800/1600
1000/2000
1500/3000
2000/4000
3000/6000
4000/8000
5000/10000
6000/12000
8000/16000
10000/20000

Blinds increase every 15 minutes. The timer also starts immediately and not after the end of the current hand.

We use this and start with 12-20 people across 2 tables starting with $10000 in chips each. Once we are down to 8 players everyone left is then moved to a single table and eliminated from there.

*Edit* hahaha...Sputnik must've been typing same time as me. I'm talking about Coupe's blind structure.

Holy cow thats one aggresive blind structure!! lol

My two table tourneys last around 5-7 hrs. starting stack is 10k

Opening blinds are 25/50 with final blinds around 10k. blind levels are 30 minutes. About 12 levels give or take.

Everything you need to know about running a tourney; rules, starting chip amounts, chip calculators, blind structures etc etc

Coupe...I regularly have 22 man tourneys. I actually have to turn ppl away. In the summer I had a 4 table 44 man tourney.

Oops. Typo.

Our two (or more) table tourneys have 30 min blind increases.

Single table games have a 15 minute blind structure.

Christ, we could never play poker for that long. I guess if that is all you wanted to do all night you could stretch it out, but man, I think I would get really bored playing for that long.

Those are freakin nice chips, Coupe!! I'd love to play with those.

So, about our 5 -7 hour tourneys...thats a whole night. We have breaks every hour or so, plus at least one long meal break where we bring in Pizza, wings whatever. There's lots of drinking going on, a little table hockey or pool as well. And once we are down to one table, the other table opens up for cash games. You'd be surprised how fast the time goes. Usually start at 7 and before you know it its midnight and still going strong. My latest game went 'til 3:30 am. But usually we're wrapped up by shortly after midnight.

Sigh reading about this just makes me wanna play poker even more... I say damn to being underage... =[ (I'm 16, and although I don't have much experience, nice chips dude).

I've read so many books about poker I don't even remember half of it, but I find I'm lacking in experience... (Not meaning to drag this off topic, but does anyone have any pointers when playing poker (preferably Texas Hold 'Em?)

Thanks,

Atriux

Hey Smokem and Sputnik....either of you interested in selling some/all of your chips? I'm having a tough time finding them to add to my collection.

I'm looking for 1's and 25's (for cash games) and more 100's, 500's and 1,000's for larger tourneys.
