what damage can occur if you drive a vehicle with a power steering pump failure.
everything else is just fine, no belts have slipped, the power steering pump has just quit.

to buy one in town will be at least $800

online around $350-400. so i would rather wait and get one shipped...
but i need to drive.
lol

any input?
flame if you think this is a stupid question, i could careless. i just dont see what damage it could do?

You can get air in the system which is a huge PITA to bleed. If the pump is already gone I can't see anything else braking, I drove without PS for 6 months for cheapness reasons like you.

What car is this?

2000 323i

I'll do a flush when i replace the pump.. i could go buy the pump tonight, but honestly, 400 bucks is alot of money haha.

I did on my car for a couple weeks. And I got a flush afterwards too, no problems with me.

Im not too sure how heavy your car is but it was def. a work out when i had to park.

If the pump is gone then no worries. You will just end up with some buff arms that's it.

^lol my 240 has no pwr steering connected, it's like wrestling a wild boar to do a full 180 turn at slow speed, atleast s13 turn radius is very good, a 3 point turn with no pwr steering(on a car that is supposed to have p/s) is hell on a busy street.

haha I drove w/o power steering on my Z for a little while.
Parking lots are the worst. in/out of spots.

That's because your EG probably has a manual steering rack. Try driving a power steering rack without the power steering pump...

was that neccesary ^^^

ive driven a car that was suppose to have ps but all the sudden the pump died.

and yes its harder to drive i think than a car that was never made with ps.

not when your buying a whole car compared to a tiny little pump.

it's good to know cuz I think my pump is going. It squeeeeels when it's cold untill it heats up a bit, strugling to turn when it's cold. Sound like it's going?

i have been w/o ps for about 2 years now and at first it was cool because it felt like i had more "feel" from the wheel, but now all the extra effort is getting old and i want my ps back !

fyi. the ps pump in my car sits above the alternator, and with a leaking pump i was changing alternators every year or so. so i just took my ps belt off, and 2 years later there are no probelms . . .

haha its worse if it was like mine,
The boot itself was leaking, so the whole rack didnt even have any fluid it in. worse than just not having the pump work thats for sure.

It's nothing special to drive a civic without power steering. I know girls who do it. On cars like bimmers and Z's it'll be a lot tougher.

I have no power steering on my Z right now, i cant parallel park any more, it takes so much effort. I just drive around looking for a bigger spot, or do it the lazy way and mount the kerb and then straighten it out, which is still a huge hassle.

Good work out though
