None of the 3 rx7s I own smoke on startup - unless you count condensation as smoke. :dunno:

Not every RX7 smokes at startup, but it IS very common. I find it very odd that Mazda never fixed these issues with the 2nd Gen version. I've owned two (86 & 87) and both had the standard cut-off switch required.

are you referring to teh fuel cut off switch?

its a seperate issue to the smoke.

All rotaries with over 100,000kms smoke, its a matter of degree

how long it smokes until it burns off is the indicator of the overall health of the engine. Even then its not an indicator of poor performance, just age and wear.

put another way, your engine can have worn oil seals and be leaking like a seive, and not affect compression. :)

In my cases, the fuel cut-off switch had *everything* do to with startup smoke. The leaked fuel would partially flood the engine, then when it finally caught it would burn up the said fuel when the engine was no longer too flooded to run. With the switch installed, the fuel was cut off, and voila - no more smoke on startup.
