i went to CT today to get some winter tires mounted on steelies.. the guy told me that i would need OEM for my car and said the all fits would rub on my calipers..

is this true or is the guy being a dick?

I could see it having something to do with the size of the steelies, rather than them being OEM.
Im sure 15" steelies would be fine clearing the brakes, maybe even 14", unless you have aftermarket brakes.

My first reaction would be to say that he's just being Canadian Tire, but that's just me.
Chances are the steelies they have don't have the required offset needed to fit on your car.

Got a buddy with a similar set up? Throw one of his steelies on to check if it clears.. takes all of 10 minutes...

IIRC 14 is the min. rim size you can put on, I think I tried 13's and those didnt clear my brakes.

Most likely it's an offset problem. Canadian tire doesn't carry all of the different steel wheel combinations. I would try somewhere else just to be sure.
