dash kit

hi, another basic question about radio installs.... is a dash kit necessary for replacing the stock head unit on a 97 accord with an aftermarket unit from pioneer/jvc? i thought it was, but i heard from someone that i might not need one. is this true? how much are dashkits, generally? thanks again!

dashkits are aprox. $30

you probably won't need one but it'll look like a sloppy install.

Future shop tried sucking me into buying the dash kit, but i didn't really need it. All i needed was 2 small pieces of plastic (about 1cm by 3cm) I'm not sure what your dash looks like though.

If you want, you can try Walmart or Canadian Tire if you want an cheap dash kit. I don't know if they have one for your car, but if they do, they work and will cost around $16.
