So ive gotta do some math that ive been putting off for a couple of years for my geology degree. Its either MATH 249 (didnt do math 31 in high school) and 253, or I can do AMAT 217 and 219. Being that im generally a dumbass at math I need the easier one, anyone got any ideas?

249 & 253, btw I've done 251, 253 & 219. I'm not sure if you can 217/219 without math 31 anyways. And isn't 217/219 engineers only?

No, I had some people in my 217 class that weren't in engg

ya, its science and engineering.

So AMAT is really that bad eh? Cause everyone bitches about doing the other ones a lot...

I didn't think Amat was that bad, but it definitely covered more advanced topics than 253 as well as more material.

I see no sense taking it when you have the option of doing 253.

If you haven't done math in a while, you might want to brush up on your trig and algebra skills if you think they are rusty & make sure you get a good prof, for this class it will matter a lot. Calculus can seem pretty foreign when you are exposed to it for the first time.

I just went and checked, and you do need math 31 for AMAT. Makes things easier anyways. Thanks for the tips anyways.

amat 217 was ok. gotta have the right prof. who i strongly recommend is yousry elsabrouty. best amat prof ever! he was so good, my room had 4 lectures crammed into it, because people wanted to get his notes. AMAT 217 is not only for engineers only. remember try to get yousry elsabrouty. and get his calculus book. its a great resource. covers EVERYTHING.

^LOL Holland writes so fast that your hand will be hurting by the end of every lecture trying to keep up with him. Elsabrouty FTW

He was my Math221 teacher, and he was an absolute badass.

But, i'm still going to have to side with turbotrip and say Yousry FTW when it comes Amat.

Why would you take AMAT instead of the MATH Route?

Amat is significantly more extensive. I did 217, and found it pretty difficult especially since I had a poor calculus background, since you havn't taken 31, you would get eaten alive. BTW. 31 is a pre-req for 217, so I don't know how you would even get in it. On the other hand, I did quite well in 251, with limited amounts of effort.

I have known quite a few people who found 249 somewhat challanging without 31, so, in a nutshell, do 249, 253.

I know, figured this out about a month ago.
