Hello out there. I am nate, I am just looking into how much a good audio system costs. Currently, I don't have a car to drive around in, but its coming up very soon, so I would like to get an idea of about how much a good audio system is ganna cost me. The cars that I am looking at are the 240sx and the Supra. From around 88 - 94.

I am going into this wanting to be cheap and get something basic, I really want people to hear me coming from a ways away. Bass is big on my list, what is a good set up so its not too much or too little of both music and bass? I also don't really want the car to sound like its about to rattle it self apart, is there a way to make sure this doesn't happen? Oh yes, how much am I willing to put into this? It really depends on how much I have left over after I buy my car, but I would expect around $500.

One more question, has anyone out here had any experince with these cars? (240 and Supra) There are a few 240s in my area, so I would figure that people are holding on to them because they like them.

My head unit cost more than $500 :D

If you want a system that people can hear from a distance, and you don't want your car to shake, then $1500-$3000 including install would be about right.

If you don't mind used, there are good deals to be had for subs and sub amps. I would buy a head unit new, though. For a budget system, with all the goodies (sub(s), amp(s), speakers and head unit, wiring) I'd look at least in the range of $1000 if you're using a pre-built enclosure.

You can score some of the off-name stuff pretty cheap, or you can land lightly used JL Audio (which is good compromise for boom and money) or Alpine (same thing) in the forum marketplace or on a site like canadiancaraudio.com.

I say search some of beyonds buy/sell section and find a friend whos knowledgable on installs if you have any. Sounds like you wanna save money and this would probably be the best way to do it.

Good luck

Better to get a high end deck cause that will go in any car so you can keep it. amp your speakers if you have "crazy" bass, and expect to be paying 500 for each amp couple hundred each sub and pair of speakers. If you want the most bass possible out of the subs you get, get a box customized, it sounds waaay better then the $100 junk box at best buy. good starting price 350-500 on the box.

my head unit was over $1500.... also should note that it does not play mp3s nor has nav or a "dvd screen"

this is what will happen when you get overly obsessed with SQ

your sorta limited to either used stuff or like "tma or clarion" for subs and stuff or ebay if you got a 500 limit cause car audio is expensive for the most part. i sell this stuff and its pricey for like a alpine setup 2 subs and amp installed will run you like a grand min haha and thats cheap. for head units they can be pricey like 1100 for a alpine but just get an ordinary deck for like 200 with an ipod cable unless you are actually going to watch the dvds or use the crappy nav.
