View Full Version : Saudi Arabia to sign contracts on 100 Canadian Rigs

So this is just a rumor I heard today. A geologist who works for shell who was watching BNN today told a directional driller who called another DD who told me because I'm usually watching BNN.... Strangely enough i was actually working today so I didn't have it on.

We are losing lots of rigs to the US and Russia right now. If Saudi signs a 100 rigs Canadas conventional oilfield activity might face an even bigger slow down. Its one thing to be at the mercy of market cycles, but another entirely to have no rigs to drill with.

Did anyone see or hear anything about this? I've tried google and BNN and cant find anything about it.

Thanks!

Yep, and they are going to Saudi and the states. It seems like every time we start building a rig for a Canadian company they cancel the contract.

Conventional drilling is declining, therefore the Canadian market is saturated with drilling and service rigs.

I can't see Saudi needing rigs built, They have the cheap labour and the technology (what little there is) required for rig manufacturing.

Right now there is a big push for rigs overseas but it's more for Venezuela, Argentina, Germany and Russia.

Considering it costs 500 grand to send a rig to quebec, I'm sure it will cost in the millions to ship one overseas. They can build a decent double for 3-4 million.

You can put a Rig on a boat and have it in a couple months.

You cant build a hundred rigs from scratch... Or train the crews in that same amount of time

and honestly, the quality of Canadian built rigs is the best in the world, bar none.

. Sure they can make a portion of the rig, but the important stuff comes from North America 99% of the time....because we make a far superior product.

Nebors 69 (one of the largest rigs in North America) aparently is heading to Russia. I heard that from the Tool Push himself.

...basically JoMax stole the business, and we have some more holes lined up in Northern BC.

Honnestly, anyone that agrees with the alberta royalty thing should be shot

edit: rumour is JoMax 2 was sold to someone in South America, possibly Brazil.

Was Nabors 69 working for Suncor when it got released?
