Hey Everyone

What do u guys think would win in a race between a mustang gt coupe (99-03), mitsubishi eclipse, acura rsx type s, celica gt-s? Another question...What is better :a lighter car with slightly less horsepower(200-225) and torque(~200lbs) or a heavier car with say about 300hp and ~300lbs of torque, like rsx and mustang?

Thx everyone for all the know-how!

Since when is an RSX considered heavy or have 300Hp? The mustang will kill all the others on the street. There are no turns that would really give the other cars enough of an advantage.

I am hoping he means.

RSX - lighter, ~200/~200 HP/Tq
Mustang - heavier, ~300/~300 HP/Tq.

The mustang (especially the new ones - 0-60 in 5.0, 1/4 mile in 14.0) will destroy any of those cars.

Mustang, no question. Unless of course you have a bad driver, but that would be another story ;)

The weight difference has to be quite large before you'll see the gap between a lighter car with less power close on a heavier car with a LOT more power. As has been said before, a 99-03 mustang will easily beat any of the other cars you mentioned at the strip with an evenly remotely competent driver.

If you want a good way to gauge acceleration, divide vehicle weight by horsepower. This gives you the Power to weight ratio, which is not the end-all statistic, but it will give you an idea. There are many other variables to consider, such as traction, gearing, and power delivery.

The lowest figure is the best power to weight.

2003 Mustang GT coupe:
Curb Weight: 3242
Horsepower: 260
12.47 lbs/hp

RSX Type S:
Curb Weight: 2721
Horsepower: 200
13.6 lbs/hp

Celica GTS:
Curb Weight: 2500
Horsepower: 180
13.8 lbs/hp

2g Mistu Eclipse GSX:
Curb Weight: 3270
Horsepower: 210
15.6 lbs/hp

Obviously, the Stang already has the clear advantage here, now add the mustangs massive 302lb/ft of torque, and it would be a pretty good ass beating. The eclipse has all wheel drive, and considerably more torque (214) than the RSX(142) and Celica(130). But the Mitsu also weighs alot more.

My prediction: The GSX beats all off the line, the stang leaves everyone by the 2-3 shift, then the RSX and Celica both eventually pass the Eclipse just before the quarter.

There you have it, Bench racing at its finest :)

Disclaimer: This is just an educated guess. Thats why you have to actually race to see the outcome.

I agree, AWD will beat all the others off the line.

I don't think he was bitching at you, I think he said that to further illustrate his point that the mustang would own the other cars.

this is true
but i think we were talking about the 2nd gen eclipse
the newer 3 gen ones are shit in my opinion.

The mustang will of course win. Torque makes all the difference.
